Boeing 307 Stratoliner. First airliner with a pressurized cabin. Loosely based off of B-17 components. This is the last complete airframe, at Smithsonian Air and Space Udvar-Hazy center.

She got restored, and on her takeoff roll to fly to the Smithsonian, she ran off the runway and got submerged in water! They restored her AGAIN, and she finally made the trip.

Not "run off the runway"...ditched after running out of fuel!

https://www.seattlepi.com/business/article/NTSB-releases-report-on-Stratoliner-crash-1107986.php

Moments later, Nelson radioed "mayday" and the Stratoliner, all four engines out, ditched into Elliott Bay about 50 feet from shore and in view of people eating lunch at nearby Salty's restaurant.

What is the trend for painting these birds in high gloss camo patterns?  There are two A-4's hiding at a local airport painted black and white zebra pattern and a bright blue and grey scheme. There is also an O2 Skymaster in glossy desert camo.

I can't speak to the individual patterns, but they usually do a gloss coat because it's easier to maintain.

There are two flying in the states. One here in Virginia, the other in Washington state. You're about halfway in between

If, as I suspect, that picture was taken at the Military Aviation Museum over in Virginia Beach, then been there, seen that. They have an incredible collection, most of it said to be airworthy, as in “gas it up and go”.

Small world.

That's a cool pic...lots going on there...a 172 holding short, air race pylons, and a unique 747 variant.

Yeah I liked this one because you get an idea of just how big the 747 is compared to the 172. Red Bull Air Race is here this weekend being held just a couple miles north of this airport at Texas Motor Speedway, I'm not sure what the pylon at the airport was actually for. The race course is all up at the speedway and the aircraft are even going to taking off from the infield there instead of coming from the airport. I got lucky with the E-4B, it's not unusual for Alliance to get transient military aircraft so I drove up there hoping for something. An F/A-18 made an appearance shortly after I arrived but not much else was going on, then off in the distance I spotted this flying way lower than it would be just transiting the area. I was monitoring the tower and a few minutes later I hear "Order 66" call and request permission to run approaches, the controller gave permission and then clarified that he was going to do this nine times. Sure enough they spent the next two hours or so running in circles sometimes doing touch & go's but mostly just low approaches, in this time the largest other aircraft to use the airport was a Cessna Caravan so the controller spent a lot of time warning people about wake turbulence lol.

Yeah, it's definitely something wild to watch. I've got some other angles of it that show more detail. I'll get around to processing them at some point this winter. I'm kinda backed up right now with a daily photo challenge i'm competing in, and some commission work.
