Quoted: @rocky59 As you are a cigar smoker, I would be curious to know what some of your favorite tobaccos are. I have a buddy currently making the jump from cigar to pipe and he is struggling to find a tobacco that gives him the taste he’s looking for. Thanks! View Quote A few years ago, I bought a pipe tobacco made by Davidoff, and it was very smooth. If they still make it, that would probably be a really good choice for someone who is transitioning from cigar to pipe. Other than that, almost all of my favorite tobaccos have been from Cornell & Diehl. I particularly liked their “Founding Fathers” mix |

Quoted: Thanks for the recommendations from both of you. I’ll see what I can scrounge up for him. Back to the restos. This is the Peterson I posted earlier that I had simply cleaned and was smoking. https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/67156/FCA0BACE-F909-49F1-8028-C59138A71644-1332388.jpg I’ve now down a light resto on it. It got the top of the bowl cleaned up and a light sanding. I re-dyed it and polished it up. I’m very happy with this one as I now feel it looks as good as it smokes. https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/67156/93C1A7CA-B7C3-4AE7-A98A-4ED693502287-1336511.jpg View Quote That is gorgeous! |

Robert, You do good work. That pipe came out beautiful!
I wanted to thank you for the suggestion of John Dengler Tobacco. I called today and spoke with, IIRC, Larry. I have never talked to someone as nice. Super helpful. I ordered the 4 pack sampler on his suggestion. It does come with Packet. He doesn't know me from Adam and was going to just stick it in the mail and let me send a check when I got it. Amazing that someone still does business that way. I was able to go ahead and pay him with a card, which they evidently don't normally do? They earned a customer today. They are evidently VERY busy. He had to take my name and number and call me back. Just a heads up, they are about to go up on prices next month. He said it was the first time in years. I also ordered that estate Peterson you suggested along with a Czech pipe tool and a Mac Baren Scottish blend to try. I forgot pipe cleaners, but can get them locally easily. I'm looking forward to this journey. I hope I like it as much as I do cigars. |

BTW, if you get the pipe and hate it, let me know and I’ll buy it from you. Be sure and post some pics when you get it. It’s a shame you’re not close enough to visit the Dengler shop. It’s in a 150 year old brick building in the heart of old town St. Charles and just oozes character. |

I hate you Robert, my eBay is now littered with estate pipes. I have more projects around this house to finish than this quarantine time will allow now you are making me want to work on pipes.

Love that wood grain!
My pipe should be sitting at the P.O. but I'm going to wait till Friday and hope my John Dengle order shows up as well. Trying not to venture out to town more than once a week until this virus stuff calms down. |

Very nice work. I have an old CPF pipe that I've been wanting to restore one of these days. It has a hole bitten through the stem so I'm not sure if I should just make a new one or try to fill in the original. It's a really neat pipe, with gold foil embossing. Maybe I'll start on it while I'm stuck in the house.

The fills didn't turn out too bad considering they will be orange with a putty. I would be happy with that. Many times the Cyanoacrylate will shrink after sanding a require several applications to completly fill
Here is an heavily filled example on Reborn Pipes |

Quoted: This next pipe really isn’t a restoration, but more of what I would consider a “continuation”, because it’s a continuation of the work done by @DK-Prof. Some of you may remember that a while back DK was gracious enough to gift several of the “less than perfect” pipes in his inventory. Myself and two of my friends were the lucky recipients of three of these pipes. The bottom pipe in this photo was the one I received. https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/67156/8F9E8D56-82E9-4E4F-A05F-313225089505-1349864.jpg It wasn’t really a second, but more a concept pipe that led to the development of my beloved Stamme #108, my favorite Vinland pipe. https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/67156/1143C77E-BD36-4806-9CE8-09193C8370FA-1305124.jpg As you can see they are similar, but different pipes. I’ve smoked it a few times and thought I might like it a bit more if the stem were bent to match the green #108 pipe. Well, bending the stem led to realizing the stem had oxidized a little which led to sanding and buffing the stem and the next thing I knew, the pipe was in the sandblaster! Anyway, this is what I ended up with after blasting, re-dyeing and buffing. I hope the good professor approves! https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/67156/37203619-C2A9-4E2A-8D10-4A8A7F70FA9C-1349868.jpg https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/67156/70F57D4C-F5EE-4E95-A242-F5ED81842055-1349867.jpg https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/67156/C09A4B6B-B85F-4CF8-BB9E-267C7E43A633-1349866.jpg https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/67156/1B40B817-378B-4FD9-AF9A-AD65118EB597-1349869.jpg https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/67156/45565BB5-EFA7-47BD-8142-7BC4574B3414-1349865.jpg View Quote I think that is super-cool. Most of my pipes are estate pipes from ebay sales. Most cost me less that $15 I have only been dissapointed with 1 pipe, and it was still well worth the $12 I spent on it. |

Just a heads up, RNA Treasures is having a stay at home sale on their unfinished pipes. These are unfinished and some finished pipes from a French manufacturer that went out of business in the ‘70s. They are normally $15.00 each, but are on sale right now for $5.00 each. They still show as $15.00 but the price changes to $5.00 when you put them in your cart. Their shipping is very reasonable also. I’ve never ordered one before, but a lot of folks in the pipemaking groups on Facebook order them and like them.
I ordered 20, and I may go back and get a few more. BTW the first selection in the sale section are French briar billiards and they still show $15.00 when you put them in your cart. If they get the glitch fixed, I’ll definitely order a few of those also. |
