What's the bed load capacity on a 98' F150? 6' bed, extended cab, 4.6L V8, 2WD, no rust, good shocks.

1/2 ton.

How far do you have to go? what are you hauling? is it a dirt load centered over the axle or a lumber load hanging out over the end?

a pickup can carry a lot more weight than rated for, but there are so many variables it is hard to say without more detail.

your safety and the safety of others is the main thing to consider when overloading.

2 blocks down the road at 35 mph? no problem.

20 miles down the freeway? rent a trailer with good brakes.

1300 lb load evenly distributed, 60 mile drive on a flat/straight highway. There are a couple stoplights, but they're in 50mph zones.

You will be fine. I put 2 pallets of sod ~3600 lbs in my 3/4 ton with no side effects but with all that weight in the rear my breaking was effected drastically. If it had been a short drive I would have just made two trips but it was about 40 miles each way and I was doing it for a neighbor so it was my gas money. I wouldn't make a habit out of it though.

1780lbs is the standard payload capacity listed several places.
