Bond star ignores fans' criticism
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/4792242.stm

Craig previously starred in Layer Cake

The latest James Bond actor Daniel Craig says he is focused on making the next movie in the franchise despite the stinging criticism he has faced.

A small band of fans has called for a boycott of Casino Royale because they do not agree with the casting of Craig.

"I've been trying to give 110% from the beginning and maybe after that (the criticism), I was trying to give 115%," said Craig.

"You go mad if you believe any of it," he added.

"You can't believe the good stuff. You can't believe the bad stuff. You kind of just take it in. But I'm focused on making this film."

'Go mad'

Craig admitted he had got a paper cut damaged a tooth during filming in the Bahamas but it did not halt production, as had been claimed.

He also dismissed rumours he could not drive a manual car.

"You go mad if you believe any of it (the criticism)," he said.

I think he's the right man for the job

Debbie McWilliams, casting director

"The truth is if you don't get bruised doing Bond, you're not doing it properly."

Craig replaces Pierce Brosnan as one of cinema's most iconic characters. Brosnan played Bond in four films.

Critics of Craig have pointed out the actor is blond while James Bond has dark hair.

But producers have defended their choice of Craig.

Incredibly interested

"Once we started looking for someone, I really thought that Daniel would be the perfect guy and I think everybody will agree once they see the movie," said Barbara Broccoli, whose family own the franchise rights.

"I think he's the right man for the job."

Casting director Debbie McWilliams said that despite the criticism Craig had received there was still an enormous affection for the Bond character.

"People are, thank goodness, in a way still incredibly interested," she said. "Virtually a day doesn't go by where we don't read something about James Bond in a newspaper and that can only be good for us I think."
..............................

Ah- I see the problem. The ladies who now run the show want a sensitive New Age kinda guy. Well- they got him, and the franchise is about to tank because of it. Not all publicity is good publicity.

Don't really care anymore.  Movies worth watching are very few and very far between these days.  I probably wouldn't have seen it if they had cast 12 naked hot chicks to play Bond.  Well, maybe then I would see it....   but probably not.

Heard on the radio that this idiot wants to do a full frontal nude scene in Bond, because after all they have women do it. He also says he is gifted in the lower region...

He is Teh Ghey!

I'm still pissed that they hired a guy to play Bond and he can't even drive a stick??? I think they should have cast him as another classic Bond character.......Pussy Galore

despite all the criticism of this guy....I think the movie is going to be better than the last few. I like the fact that they are really trying to inject a lot of grit and rough edges into the new bond movie..

The last Bond movie I saw, left me feeling like I just watched one REALLY long commercial. Product placement was a little out of control.

I think the truth of the matter is that, there has always been Bond fanboys whining over the choice of a new Bond. I remember it last time there was a change. Now all the losers are able to congregate on the Intarweb, and thus it seems like they're making more of a big deal. I guess I understand, I mean I'm not real thrilled with the Miami Vice movie cast selection neither... but it certainly does not ruin my whole year. Some people really need lives outside of the television.

Sean Connery is Bond. Nobody can really replace him.

I really don't understand the criticism of this guy.

What was Pierce Brosnan famous for before becoming James Bond?  Appearing in Remington Steele?
Timothy Dalton?
Hell, even Sean Connery wasn't a big star really until he started doing the Bond movies.

1. He can't fight
2. He's afraid of guns
3. The boat ride in with british marines to his first press conference 'scared' him
4. He can't drive stick shift
5. He wants to do a full frontal nude scene in a bond flick

Have you ever seen Roger Moore or Sean Connery's fight scenes?  Shit, Roger Moore almost needed a walker in some of his later Bond movies....They are so fake, it's not even funny.
Which Bond actors weren't afraid of guns?  When has the Bond movies ever realisatically portrayed firearms accurately anyways?  Anybody remember the silenced revolver in the early movies?
Maybe he was afraid of being stuck on a boat with lonely Marines, haha
It was a rumor that he couldn't drive stick shift, which everyone has denied.
So what about a full frontal nude scnee?  He's british, they are always showing off their wangs in their movies....

I think Pierce was the best one since Connery.  They need to bring back Connery as an old Bond on a last mission and just end it.  It could be the best Bond flick ev-ar.

My point isn't that I think this new guy is some sort of macho super-hero oscar winning actor, I just don't see much of a difference between this guy and Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, Geroge Lazenbry and to an extent Sean Connery.  They are all lefty, wimps who portray tough guys.

Most people around here don't like anyone but sean connery as bond (me included).

If they wanted an english guy to get back to the bond roots, jason statham would be a good choice. A guy that can actually pull of his own fights.

So basically they've been using weenie actors since Connery quit the post and haven't made a decent movie in 25 years, which I could agree with,
so why be shocked that they hired on this guy?

BIG +1 on Clive Owen.

However...the most recent Bond was so terrible that I doubt I'd see another one without huge arfcom approval beforehand, a-la Batman Begins, Serenity, et al...
