Just finished watching the sci-fi classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

Remember that movie? Did you know that as originally filmed, the movie ended with Dr. Bennell (Kevin McCarthy) in a state of hysteria yelling at passing cars on the highway: "They are out to get you! Your wives, your children! You're next!" with the camera fading out on his hopless effort to warn the people of the pod menace...

But, the studio thought that was too shocking and unsettling for the audiences, so they tacked on a new beginning and narration by Dr. Bennell as he tells his story to some cops and doctors...after the "You're next!" fade-out at the end of the film, his listeners are informed of a truck that has crashed; it was carrying "large, strange seed pods". The Authorities are notified, and maybe everyone will be saved!



I like the original ending better!


And they sure did a lot of drinking alcohol in that movie...

And did you know that Kevin McCarthy made a brief cameo in the 1978 remake as the guy running hysterically through traffic trying to warn the public? Robert Duvall also appeared uncredited as a priest on a swing. Blink and you'll miss it.

The 1955 film credits also listed Sam Peckinpah as an actor, but I did not see him.
