They're not just for kids. My favorite has to be Heavy Metal, with Monsters Inc. a close second.
Link Posted: 12/1/2005 6:28:19 PM EDT
+1 for Heavy Metal
And the The Incredibles was loads better than Monsters Inc.
Link Posted: 12/1/2005 6:30:24 PM EDT
When I saw the thread title in Active Topics, the first thing that came to my mind was Heavy Metal. Great minds, thinking alike and all......
Link Posted: 12/1/2005 7:40:34 PM EDT
Shrek and Ice Age are both great.
Link Posted: 12/1/2005 7:47:44 PM EDT
Stewie Griffins untold story.
Link Posted: 12/2/2005 6:44:52 AM EDT
The Shrek and Toy Story movies definitely.
Haven't seen too many other CGI animated movied that were that good.
Ice Age was ok.
Shark Tale SUCKED!!!
Ants was pretty dumb from what I remember of it.
Haven't seen Monsters Inc., Finding Nemo, Robots, or most others.
Madagascar is pretty decent. That's the one my son is wearing out right now. Some pretty funny lines in it.

Ghost in the Shell (only the original... all of the follow-ups SUCKED)
The original Disney Pinnochio was a good one in terms of classics.
Lion King wasn't too bad. Again... a movie my son was wearing out for a good month or so.
Transformers: The Movie... Prime and Megatron to the death? What's better than that?

ETA: Sort of a toss-up between Kim Possible and Jessica Rabbit.

Both Shreks and the new release Chicken Little is a hoot.

Madagascar is pretty good too.
Link Posted: 12/2/2005 9:16:26 PM EDT
Anything done by Pixar
I thought Heavy Metal was cool when I first saw it but i saw it again recently and the animation is fucking horrible

What's that show, I think on Disney, about this kid with power over wind, and there are other "tribes" with power over other elements. I think he's called a wind tosser or something. I catch it every once in a while. it's a pretty neat cartoon.

I liked Titan AE, got it for a nephew last Xmas, he lost interest but I watched on.......... Also, Stevie Griffiths Untold creased me up.....

I wouldn't say it's "the best", but it's one of the best, IMO.

I haven't seen any US animated movies since Shrek 2 came out on DVD, although I prefer 1 more than 2. I'd give Monsters Inc an "above average". I'm so-so about the Toy Story movies. The only non-classic Disney movie I've seen in a long time is Mulan and thought it was ok. I thought Chicken Run from Aardman in the UK was good but it doesns't have much "rewatch" value for me.

For Japanese anime, Appleseed is good but I thought the characters looked out of place with the backgrounds.
Perfect Blue is a change from the usual action genres of Japanese animation (it's a Hitchcock-esque mystery/thriller).
Jin Roh is rather grim but worth the effort to watch.
Ghost in the Shell did for anime what William Gibson's book Neuromancer did for science fiction.
End of Evangelion defies logical description, plus it's a movie spinoff ending to a series and may not make a lot of sense without knowing the series (and the last few episodes of the series get very strange).

Hopefully there is no element called "salad".

I totally forgot about Jessica Rabbit. Red hair, that figure, & the sultry voice of Kathleen Turner
But does she really count as a "Disney" character?

Haven't seen much Kim Possible but being a redhead she'll be near the top of my renewed list. Ariel is still #1 though.

Alice (from Alice In Wonderland) is nice also. Much hotter than those other two blondes that get all the attention: Cinderella & Aurora (Sleeping Beauty)
"Alice In Wonderland" needs to be added to my list of fav animated features.

I think you're talking about the Avatar, he's an air bender.

I've got 4 boys under the age of 10, I get to see my share of cartoons.

Wallace and Grommet: Curse of the Were-Rabbit
and
Cowboy Bebop

There's others that were good, but both of them rated highly. Old Disney stuff is classic but sometimes lacks the punch I want now.

It's an adaptation of a comic series. Like all adaptations, stuff has been changed for the movie version.

The basic plot is that a branch of the Japanese military has been secretly experimenting with psychic abilities, mostly involving children. Akira was their most powerful result, so powerful he went out of control and accidently triggered a major war, but the fact that Akira started the war was covered up. The story of the movie starts after the war. The experiments are continuing and a group of misfit delinquents accidently stumble apon the experiments. One of the misfits is taken to become part of the program but becomes too powerful for them to control and runs amok.
