It's government mandated to be in a certain spot ( height and relation to rear wheel ) must have reflectors and turn signals with minimum area and distance apart.

Are you talking about the rear mudguard / plate holder on sport bikes?

They also keep the rear tire from slinging water up your back and down your asscrack when riding on wet pavement.  That's why they stick out past the end of the tire.  Keeps rocks from sandblasting / cracking the tail light too and keeps it clean and visible.

Maybe more like 87% and it's removed solely for appearance or to give you the outlaw look.  I rode with mine off for a while on my 1000RR and found I actually prefer the function of it over the cool factor of having it off, so I put it back on.   It's not like I see the thing when riding, but I sure do notice the difference when it rains and how it keeps little rocks and mud from being thrown up onto me and the back of the bike.   I also feel more comfortable having all my reflectors since I ride half the time at night.

Why add a chain?  That will just add to your maintenance.  Sounds like you are trying to turn your Harley into a Honda.

Because I can. Also the maintenance isn't anything difficult. And replacing a chain on the side of the road with minimal tools is considerably easier than changing a belt. Gearing changes are easier with chains. Also HD used chains long before Honda.

Glad to see you are ok!  Couple questions. What year is the new ride?  And how did the crash happen, as I know you are an experienced rider?  I find the AAR’s on accidents good places to learn how to ride safer. Thanks!

New ride is a '17 busa.....I've now had the oldest and newest

The crash was rather odd. I went down basically going strait coming out of a corner. I'm fairly certain the left frt caliper locked up. Minutes after the wreck the left rotor was scorching hot and the right was cold. Going into the corner the bike was a bit doggy...I remember thinking I must be in the wrong gear...then the bars danced....then I hit the fucking ground

Some farkles have been added to my BMW R1200GS-A.

New tires:  Avon TrekRider.  I really, really like them.  Excellent on-road manners- and by excellent I mean they seem comparable to the Michelin Pilot Road 4 tires on my CBRXX.  I managed only limited gravel and dirt road riding on my 150-mile check ride but they seemed to hook up and brake well.  No wet riding (yet).  Only a slight growl from 0-15mph and a hum/whine at speed that reminds me of my Peterbilt.

I also swapped out the stock (shitty) seat for a Saddlemen Adventure Track.  The comfort difference is like night and day.  I didn't even notice my butt during or after my tire check ride- the previous seat would cause discomfort after as little as an hour.  It has a nice firm gel under the waterproof synthetic suede, and the open channel down the middle means you are on your sit-bones (like a road bicycle seat) and the boys and the taint don't get pressure.  Also, it seems to have two primary positions:  Snugged up front against the tank for sportier riding and a nice convex position towards the back that your ass fits nicely in.  It's "Standard height" but is a little taller than stock.  I can't flat-floot the GS-A at a stop (with both feet) even with my 36" inseam.  One foot leaned over is flat.  This height doesn't bother me.
