IIRC, there's a member here who's quarter mile times are even quicker than your GTO. I only know of two people on this website who drive Omnis. One is fast and the other hauls around machine guns.

The point is, most of the people that weigh in on threads like this don't even drive anything remotely performance oriented.  Look at the one guy who's whole qualification for having an opinion on the Miata is that his wife drives a V6 Mustang.

I respect your confidence.  Many guys would preclude themselves from the joy of owning a truly fun to drive sports car b/c they are insecure.

I can't own one because my fat ass in a Miata would negate any and all fun factor that the car could possibly have.

Yep. Just as there's armchair commandos, there's armchair automotive experts too.

Yeah I did the carfax and such. Not a big market for fun cars in South Texas down here we are the home of big trucks. I think the guy that bought it was intimadated. (spell check?)

Great.  You can get the original 2004 Mazda Miata Mazdaspeed Edition sales brochure here.  It's a Adobe PDF file.

I like the idea of a hot little roadster, but I don't like the execution of the Miata.  It did come off gay to me, and I'm not quite sure why.  The redesign they did for the later 90s looked better, but the newest one is a step backwards again IMO.

The Solstice looks alot better to me, but it also shares a lack of power w/ the Miatas.  Saw a Solstice on the road the other day and it looked damn hot.  I've only seen pictures of the sister car, the Saturn Sky, but it frankly looks even better, more chiselled.

I was reading a couple weeks ago about the Solstice GXP that is coming out next year (or is it later this model year, not sure?) with a turbocharged engine, 260hp if my memory does not fail me.  I'm sure it will gain just a little weight but that thing will haul some serious ass w/ 260hp.  Probably get a slightly better suspension or something w/ the GXP too, should be cool and be more of a "guy" car.

Inexpensive heterosexual roadsters should be old and British.  My first major purchase when I finish this degree is going to be a Triumph TR-6.  THAT'S a manly roadster.

In other words, if the engine cranks every time you turn the key, it's gay.  Real men like their cars like their women--unreliable, tempermental, and extremely high maintenance.

ETA:  I've owned an MG and a Triumph 250.  I've learned my lesson.  I'd much rather drive a Miata than go back to that crap.

I don't like the latest design as well. The second gen looked good, but the current ones - no thanks.

Never owned one, and don't plan to, but I've driven one, and it was fun to drive. A friend of mine drove one for years (still has it I think), and unlike a lot of the keyboard commandos on this site, he was a real Ranger.

The Miata has pretty much been my dream car since 1988, when they were released.

I have always wanted one.  Had an old MGB and it was a lot of fun.

A Miata, with the 6 speed, British Racing green, tan leather interior.

Just havent put the money together to get it... but someday I will.

And I dont give a god-damn what you guys think about it.

So, you have no actual basis for a discussion so you toss in the motorcycle red herring.
This is the oldest and lamest argument when people are discussing cars.

I have a 92 Miata.  Black with tan top.  Black hardtop for cold weather.

It is a great car for fuel efficiency.

People can think whatever they want.  As a straight man that shoots high caliber rifles accurately at great distance, I am comfortable with my decision.

Plus, my really hot fiance likes how aggresively I drive it on winding roads.

Not gay.

I have the same, but a '93.  I have had it since new and it was my daily driver for 11 years.  Added white Kosei 15X7s last year.  Really helped the handling.  Its now our fun car.  My wife drives it more than I do these days, but I still love it.  Gay?  No, although I pretty much refuse to take another guy anywhere in it for obvious reasons.

Ummmm...aren't those statements contradictory?

They're great fun to drive, I'm certain, but they do have an unfortunate stigma attached to them.

The question is, are you man enough to overcome that?

I seem to recall we have a guy here that drives a Miata-HardShell.

Personally, it seems like a nice car, it's sort of low riding, but it looks like fun.

I sat in the Pontiac Solstice at the Chicago Auto show a couple weeks ago, and I don't know, it just didn't do it for me.  And I could have myself for not visiting the new Miata at the Mazda display.

Oh well there's always next year.

Interesting that I just stumbled across this thread...

We have a truck, a sedan, an SUV, and...

It was the first new car I ever bought.  We went on our honeymoon in it.  I've had it 15 years next month and it's still a great car (the pic above is only a year or so old).  I usually refer to it as my "pet car" - I drive it once a week to keep it running good, but it stays in the garage most of the time.  I will never willingly part with it (too fun & reliable & way too many good memories) and, if I can keep it running long enough, hope to pass it along to Junior one day...

You know, I have never typed a single cuss-word in all of my time here on Arfcom.  I don't routinely talk like that in life and don't feel the need to do it here.  Heck, I even edit out profanity when I quote someone.  So, that being said, all of you who felt the need to dismiss this wonderfully designed and built traditional roadster and its many very satisfied owners as "gay" can all kiss my 6'3", 300# Rebel ASS!!!
