NO big surprise there. VW weighs 1500-2000lbs, mustang close to 3500lbs. Takes alot of HP for mustang to be in the same league

Correct, but the VW is a horizontally opposed 4 cylinder, air/oil cooled and the mustang is a V8, I understand weight to power ratio, but i bet the VW has more HP from the little 4banger than the mustang has under that "scooped" hood. I just get a kick out of watching stuff like that. I used to have a VW powered sandrail that was street legal and used to smoke the local kids in their hot rodded cars with my piece of shit dunebuggy. Back then the local kids had IROC-Z's, watching that video brought back memories.

A few years ago I worked with a guy machinist named Primo Petrucci. Said he was into building VW engines for sand racing, yada yada yadda. One day I went up to his place and found out he had a complete shop in his garage with a flow bench, dyno, tons of machinery. One of the motors he had was a Beetle motor set up to make almost 700hp on alcohol! He had a repair in from a guy who had broken his cylinder stud bolts (looked about like 5/8") pushing 60lbs of boost. Apparently, he's pretty famous amongst air-cooled VW guys.. has a few national records with his engines in them.

IIRC, he told me that 200hp in a Bug will slap a stock GT down in a good way. They need a little work to keep them stable over 100mph though.

The link seems to go to a laundry list of vids...anyone have a link to the vid itself?

+1

Decent video of what can be done to a VW, but an awesome demonstration of what a turd the Ford 4.6 is.

Did the mustang even know he was in a race?  My Grandma pulls off a red light quicker than that!!!

I agree. But it is a VW Bug, a car that stock barely makes 85 and it gets scary past 75. Overall in the world of drag racing it's slow but thats pretty damn fast for what it is.

Kinda reminds of the time Hot Rod TV/magazine dropped a 500 ci Caddy into a Chevette and laid the smack down to jackass in a C5 (IIRC it was) Vette. The guy in the Vette made the turn around road and left the strip, didn't even talk on camera.

Could be wrong but I am pretty sure Carlsbad was a 1/4 mile track till it was bulldozed a few years ago.

That's a quarter mile track.  A stock beetle is faster than high 11's in the 1/8!  Well maybe not, but that one sure is.
