I am going to replace the clutch in my omni with something that will be able to hold 350-400HP.
I also need to cobble up an alky injection kit. I have also been toying with the idea of putting in a posi diff, although the budget will be the deciding factor there. What are your plans this year. ETA: fixed the title, and the upper limit of the HP goal to 400. |

Anything that involves a "DONG to your car" sound dangerous to me.
(IOW, check your title, man. ) As to your question, I am toying with putting a cold-air induction system in my Miata for just a little more "oomph." I've had it for 15 years, it is my "pet car," I only drive it once a week or so, and it is bone stock except for suspension and exhaust system upgrades, so I don't want to do anything radical to it (no turbo/superchargers or engine swaps). Jackson Racing (who also made the free-flow cat/exhaust system I have on it) makes a good do-it-yourself CAI system for the Miata that is reasonably priced. I didn't put it on my Christmas list, but still... No changes planned for the truck, SUV, or sedan. |

Lets see.
Remove tranny to replace steel clip that holds speedometer cog on shaft so it will work. Have flywheel surface ground and replace clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing. Replace factory shifter with Hurst Billet Pro. Replace slp exhaust with a FlowMaster American Thunder cat back. Hook up electric cooling fan the original way. Attempt to buff the paint job to remove scratches, dirt, oxidation, etc. Things I want to do but probably won't get done this winter. Replace head liner & carpet. T-roof and door rubbers. Replace factory rear control arms and panhard bar with Alston ones. Replace slp headers with either ceramic or jet hot coated ones. Replace factory springs with lowering ones from Eibach. |

[South FL resident] What is this "winter" of which you speak? [/South FL resident]
|
|
Throttle body, K&N, intake, Chip, posi, new, wider tires, Black mirror tint, and Custom flame decal kit but instead of it being flames, it have stars and stripes in it.
|
|
Not a car, but my Harley will be getting new tires and probably a re-paint. Might also look at the clutch and see how it's holding up.

I'm going to light a candle to the Blessed Virgin of Four Wheel Drive.

I hate working on my own cars after working on cars all day, perhaps if I had something cool to work on...
|
|
The Nissan needs some window tinting.
The Honda needs selling but I'll hold on to it a few months more. |
|
NOT A DAMN THING!!!
I don't have a garage to work in. I can't hold onto tools when I can't feel my fingers. My car needs brakes, and some seals replaced on the lower intake manifold. I'm letting it go till it gets a little warmer out. I never work on cars in the winter. maybe someday when I have a garage. You guys/gals who have garages...don't take it for granted. You're very fortunate. Some of us live in Apt's and have to park in a parking lot. |

|
Where in Ohio? I'm looking for a winter beater. I got a line on a super clean Chebby Beretta for $1000, but I'll entertain other cars to flog while my Mustang hibernates. |

Does said Omni produce 350+ HP? Pics and specs of said Omni? |

Ah my friend, all real car nuts don't have a garage for even if they do, its got project cars in them. You see that isn't being spelled out in this thread. Some cars are projects or collectables and don't get out much or at all in winter so winter projects can take sometime and the car stay in the garage. The other cars even us with project cars are in the same boat as you. This requires planning. I need to change an alenator now or at least figure out why its only putting out 11 volts. This is a bad problem but not a crippling one. I have other cars. Enter the internet weather forecasts. I expect a high of 50 and sun just before a cold front. Rock and roll on that day. The muffler change I mentioned in my earlier post is non-critical change and it will wait for a decent day. The worst are critical repairs. That means a commuter is down, not running, and the repair can't wait. Now, you're talking skinned knuckles. I usually run a 1,500 watt heater on heavy gage extension to my car. Warm the work area parts to be replaced. Then use the heater to warm my hands for numb hands is how you get those skinned knuckles. The bad months or further north like when I lived in Chicago, I used tarps to block wind and retain the heat. There are simply some repairs I never ever let a commercial garage do. Top on my list is brakes. Twice I've had paid money for brake repairs to have them completely fail due to short cuts. Once the garage broke a bleeder and used the broken bleeder with some locktight sealant. When it failed my wife was exiting a concret garage in one of those tight spiral exits. Bang, there goes my fender. Oh, the garage was so apologetic as they fixed the bleeder for free but meanwhile the fender and hysterical wife was my problem. My favorite garage story was a Chyrsler dealor. I take my truck in for a special tuneup for only $50. It was due and I was in a hurry and it was winter. Two weeks later I take it back in cause it starts missing to high heaven. EGR is bad they say. They have no idea work for the company that makes the EGR for Chrysler. $400 later, I take the EGR into the company lab and whoops its just fine. Meanwhile my truck is still missing like crazy. Soooo, its back to the basics myself. I buy all the tune up parts, plugs, wires, distributer cap, and rotor button. First thing I do was pop the distributer cap and low and behold, the rotor button is fried. My $50 bought me a plug change and they didn't even look at the distributer. Nope, I've learned the hardway if it can be fixed by me, it will be regardless of the weather. Tj |

True as true can be! Until we bought our current place, I always found myself working on cars in the back yard out in the open. Now I have a double-garage for the projects & double-carport for the daily drivers, and I still occasionally have to move some car or the other to one of the barns temporarily. |

We shal see. It is a 2.2l with a big hybrid turbo and IC. It is agreed upon by everyone that I have talked to that I must be a total idiot if I cant get at least 300WHP out of it. With alky injection I should be able to run over 30lbs. of boost. There is a guy that lives a couple minutes from me, and he put down 379WHP on 93 octane, and no alky. His setup is similar to mine. You can check out my car at www.omniglht.com It is nothing to look at, but it is something to see. |

If I can stop being lazy I have a complete exhaust to install.
-SLP 1 3/4'' coated headers -Flowmaster 3" exhaust -Energy Suspension engine mounts My car page |

My buddy is running around 25psi of boost w/ a 2.3 ford. I think STOCK they boost between 12 to 20 psi, but I don't know for sure. He's getting 350hp and 430ft. lbs. of torque AT THE REAR WHEELS. $1300 for the car...add another 4K in goodies...and walla! 87 or 88 Ford TurboCoupe |
|
|
30 on 2.2, thats hardcore.
subnetmask-its on autotrader.com-87 plymouth sundance turbo. columbus. not a beater. |
|
There is one guy on the board who is adding a dash of alky, and he estimates that he runs 34ish pounds of boost. He does not know for sure because his 30lb. autometer boost gauge just wraps around until it is pegged, and his data logger is only able to read 34PSI. The best I know of is a guy that goes by 4sfed4. He has a Spirit RT, and he lays down 500/500 to the wheels at around 34-35PSI. He is on the turbo ford boards from time to time, so some of your 2.3 guys might know him. Like I tell all of my friends, my omni will have a rediculous trap speed, and might even have a good ET too. If not, it is going to be one glorious 1/8th mile. |

Your car looks familiar. Do you hang out at IROC Zone? |

I went there once just to see if maybe I could locate my old Camaro... nice bunch, from my brief experiences. |

That's pretty cool. |

Later this winter I will be putting a 350 in my 94 S-10 2wd. Thats about it.

I'm shopping for a C5 Vette. If it doesnt have black motorsport wheels it will and the stock wheels will go on my Firebird.
I plan on a cold air intake and a Borla exhaust and thats it. Just a litlle show and go stuff. I was going to sell the bird but I'm thinking I'll keep it in case my parents fly down this year. Dad can drive the bird while he's here. |
|
You know guys for an old school guy, I have to admit I love the little pocket rockets. Its a shame not more of the young people around here don't seem to get it but merely add a wing, some graphics, and Borla and call it day. I literaly freak when I go to CA and see what they do to the small engines and suspensions. I think a lot of my attraction to movement was from driving the older English two seater sports cars and imagining if they really had an engine. The Fast and Furious craze once seen as a crazy kids thing has matured now into a new generation of muscle car ethusiasts and the same principles now being applied to never V8 muscle cars. With it a new generation of aftermarket performance modification enthusiasts. That's a very good thing. Need for speed rocks! Tj |
||
|
I know a few "old farts" who feel this way too. My stepdad was very much a V8/muscle car only guy, until he saw a few examples of what a 4cyl. is capable of. It's still not his "cup of tea", but he respects those who like to modify the 4. |

Hope to get the 440 in the duster and on the street by spring..

|
In a couple weeks, weather providing, I'll be taking the STi up to the 4-wheel dyno in Boulder and having it custom tuned. Sittin' at about 370ft.lbs. crank torque right now, this should put her at about 400. Not enough for 11's, but solid low 12's for sure.
