I guess I misunderstood. I thought the point was to go ride to find the things, not to dig through old pictures to see if you had been there.
Previously it had to be a new picture after the target was assigned. |

To be fair. He didn't propose a new target. I'll have this one by 0700 Pacific tomorrow if nobody else has gotten it

I was thinking it would be kinda cool if you are out riding and see the "challenge" and go do it. Post a pic, get the next challenge after yours is met and be the first to post, like a game or something. A lot of times I just go riding with no real destination, figured this game would give me something to do if I just felt like riding nowhere in particular. |

OP here and that means squat...
But I'm riding so there is that. Not to take away from your great ferry ride and pic but from what I've read the target is "your bike on a ferry"... Pics should be taken of your bike at a spot, after the last find. |

I never been part of one of these challenges before.. is the object to go riding someplace you rarely go for a pic, or just random ordinary things you can see within 20 miles of your AO ? |

Originally Posted By EnduroKid: I never been part of one of these challenges before.. is the object to go riding someplace you rarely go for a pic, or just random ordinary things you can see within 20 miles of your AO ? View Quote Both. The object is just to get out and ride...the target just gives you a destination to shoot for. Just make sure the target is something the majority of people can actually get to (not an observatory like posted earlier, as they are few and far between in the country). Good things to shoot for are scenic things that are fairly common...a lake/river, a bridge, a state park, a mountain, a historic/old building, planes, boats, statues...hell, even on top of a parking garage. It can take you to new areas you've never been before, or it could be just around the block from your house. I rode 2hrs one-way for this target in a past years scavenger hunt (your bike and a state sign): Sadly, I sold my bike last year, so I'm just a spectator for now Attached File Big planes are a good target too Attached File |

View Quote Yes! I am actually going to try and visit the observatory I found. There is another destination I can hit along the way so I can kill two birds with one stone. Thanks, it is a beast and I love riding it. I am no where near capable of exploiting the bike's full potential, but I hope I do her justice by putting miles on. I believe the goal is to ride, whether it be 20 miles or 200 miles. However, I think the scavenger hunt moves forward and keeps more people interested if we stick to targets that can be found fairly easily, IMHO. For example, the current target is a building that is at least 100 years old and is still being used. That is a pretty broad criteria and I would imagine most towns/cities have some structure (even if just a historic landmark now) that was around in 1921. Now, if I would have also added that the building needed to be at least 20 stories tall then that really narrows the playing field across the country. Either way, I'm personally not going to be picky or complain because I like to ride and the challenge of finding these targets is fun and will take me to new places. |
