The Trolley grill right on the Massachusetts line, unfortunately closed at 7:00am so no bonus.
Attached File Next target: YBA the most rickity, ratty, sway-backed bridge you ever seen. Can be closed (but still standing). And in the spirit of safety, you don't have to be ON the bridge. |

That there is a Suzuki Marauder 800.
We have kind of a love/hate relationship. I was at a gas station in town and some random guy recognized it as a Marauder and asked me how i liked it (he had a good deal on one and was looking for input). I told him, "it's kind of finicky. I like it." Went on to say, "It's definitely a "rider's bike". very cool if you know what you're doing. I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner." As an aside, i've tweeked it up a tad; defeated the EGR, put better pipes on (off an 1100 even), Taller sprocket (from 15 to 17). I also bypassed that stupid delay relay on the starter. Tires are Pirellis, new in '16. Fucking tires alone are nearly $800. She's tourquey, 1-3 very calm, twist her tail though, and suddenly you're doing 80! Thanks for askin' |
|
I had it's big brother, '99 Intruder VS1400. Great bike, and damn quick. Had 17k on the clock when I got it. 136k when I sold it in 2010.
$800 for tires? For an 800??? Did you get a reach-around with that? I ride a Vulcan 1600 these days. I put tires on it year before last, ~$200. And ten bucks each for mounting. I'll get another year or two out of those sneakers. Should get at least 20-24k miles or so out of them. |
|
Yeah, 300 bucks a pop. (plus m&B)
The ( in Swanzey) fucking over charged me. Mounting and balancing I went to the Motorcycle/gun shop in Keene. It was expensive, but better. they didn't over sell me. but i won't go to that place in Swanzey (on RT. 10) ever again. ETA $315 for the front. 50 for M&B, $375 for the rear. 50 for M& B. So, 365+425. |

That's my front tire. General Altimax HP 195/60-16, about $80.00 from Tire Rack, no shipping. Picked it up in Windsor CT when I was down that way in the truck. That's the rear. Hour of my my time to pull the wheels off the bike. Free. Take wheels/tires and new rubber to local independent tire shop. Ten bucks per wheel, including disposal fee for old tires, and a six pack. 15-20 minutes of my time per wheel to balance the wheels. I used a piece of steel rod, two of the ol' lady's kitchen chairs, and sticky weights the tire shop guy handed me. No charge. Hour of my my time to put wheels back where they belong. Free. Total cost: about $232 including the beer. Now... What's this about Keene having a motorcycle AND gun shop? That'd be nearly as cool as a convenience store called Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. ----- edit by request |

View Quote They're the same guys who own Cycle Design in Phillipston Mass, on rt 2. Doug is a real nice guy. Knowledgeable, too. I would recommend him in a heartbeat. And he doesn't horde the knowledge, you can ask him anything and he'll get this far-away look in his eyes (like he's reading a manual in his head) then come back and give you all the information you need. (ETA they are on Winchester street, right between Keene State College and Walmart) So far i've bought a tire, sprocket, new chain, new mirrors and a Sar arms 9mm. Also: i've edited my post to remove the name of that other shop. Can you edit your quote? Don't want them searching and seeing this conversation. ETAA: thanks Sprocket. If any late comers want to know the name PM me, i have no problem with word-of-mouth |

Wife bought the Grom, but she took a little slip on some mud in a parking lot and wasn't up for a cruise. I don't wanna pressure her because I actually really want her to ride with me. My goal is to get in on this thread in the next couple weeks.

Working on becoming a LEO and riding for work would be fun. But fuck it’s hot in Arizona

Not a target submission because I always stop for Sonic. But I'll just leave this here.
Attached File It's been a wet riding day. I'm kinda chasing this storm, which is why I stopped for a bite. Attached File |

Isn't the sound of the rain hitting your helmet one of the most relaxing peaceful sounds there is?
I wish it rained more in Vegas for that reason alone |

Man, had to give up riding when I got married. I'd do it again in a heartbeat, but good grief this thread isn't helping the itch die any faster. https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8665/29530370210_129068d411_c.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/255/32671136015_b626dcf6f6_c.jpg View Quote New Target: Your bike and a twisty road |

Oh it was 100% my decision. My wife is too sweet to demand something like that. I'm very blessed.
At the time I wasn't sure it was wise to bring on the additional (and undeniable) risk that riding entails as a married man, so I dropped it. Now, the itch is making me reconsider. |
|
I met my wife in 1999. I've been riding since 1968.
One morning over coffee she said she'd come to a decision. Either the bike went, or she went. I smiled and told her I was sure gonna miss her. She's still here. And that's the last time the topic ever came up. |
|
I just brought home my Road King yesterday, how do I play along?
If one item was “Ride in evening Nashville rush hour traffic and don’t look terrified”, then I’m afraid I failed. I had to knock off 29 year’s worth of rust quickly, and everyone is in a much bigger damn hurry today. Didn’t even notice it in my car, but I had a reeeeeaally good grip on the seat by the time I got home. It’s all coming back to me, but I definitely jumped into the deep end. Or as my boss l(who rides and recommended the place where I bought the bike)said today, “Hell, man, you went off the high-dive into the deep end!” |

Kind of reminds me of the time we went to DC for the Memorial day Rolling Thunder ride. I told everyone,"Stay off the belt way!". Did they listen to me? NO I don't like highway riding because I don't trust people on their cell phones (driving is secondary). I ride to unwind and relax, so give me long country roads or mountain twisties or open deserts. To get the mural target I had to ride a significant distance on an interstate which was under construction for many miles, half milled, occasionally split, damp, posted 45 with moving averages of 75. |
