Keep us updated about the bike. I am interested either in the dual sport or supermoto version.

I’m pretty happy with it so far but only have 150 mikes on it and still going easy on it during the break in period.

Rode up in the mountains on forest roads yesterday and it did fine. I’m a little impatient to get some more miles on it before really seeing what it will do.

My impression so far is that there will probably be times when I will wish it had more power but I doubt there will ever be a situation where it doesn’t have enough power to do what I want to do.

It’s so much lighter and maneuverable than the KTM 790 that I had. Much more capable for the type of riding that I like.

Saturday’s ride. 137 miles to Barker Ranch and back plus a 7+ hour broken bike recovery.

One of the bikes didn’t have the range needed so strapped this gas can on my bike. At the 32 mile mark we topped him off and cached the gas can in a sand wash for the return ride.

Lost a battle with a BFR (big fuckkng rock) resulting in a broken water pump cover and all the coolant draining out.  Between mengel pass and goler wash. Not a good place for a break down and about 65 miles from camp.

Many hours later…

Everyone and all bikes safely back at camp about 0130.

What an adventure and that Jeep is a beast and the driver much skill.

Sunday ride pics coming…

Took the wife and kids riding this past Saturday. Was hoping the ground would be frozen but it was thawing enough to make the dirt greasy in places.

We had a KDX50, TTR90, CRF230, and the Foreman.

Our hunting property is accessed by a suspension bridge which is really hard to keep your balance on. It moves up and down and side-side, if you dab it twists and you swerve.

The bridge goes down to the ground and is covered in cleats. The spacing bucks an atv all over but it's easy on a bike.

Dumb question: What's the best way to move a family's worth of gear around? The back of the Transit is getting really cluttered and it takes a lot of trips to get the gear loaded up and the disorganization makes me worried something will get left home.

I've been putting boots in milk crate (or trying too as mine barely fit), helmets are kind of everywhere in their bespoke bags, clean riding clothes is easy, not sure the easiest way to transport dirty stuff. More milk crates?

I didnt want to put stuff in sealed tubs/totes  or those big hockey bags for fear of it turning into a stinky gym bag kind of thing, want to make sure the helmets and boots can dry. Boots are often too dirty to put in a duffle but clean enough to wear again with out hosing them off first.

Seems like a common problem but I'm pretty new and figuring it out. When it was just me it was easy, with an extra three going it's more complicated.

I throw all my shit in a gear bag. Has separate boot compartment so don’t care if they are dirty. When I get home I toss my jersey and base layer in the wash and put my helmet in the boot dryer.  Wear my pants for a long time before I wash them. I suppose a guy could wash his knee guards and chest protector/pack but I have never gotten around to it.

I use the cheapest golf travel bag I can find.  One bag per rider.
Boots go in contractor trash bags.

Or duffle bags work well. It’s what I use for myself.

Same. Been eyeing the dual sport version in green for a commuter/trail ride. Can get one cheap (for 2022 anyway).

Rode Budds Creek yesterday. Haven't pulled any GoPro yet, but it was a lot of fun. Track was excellent, though it was pretty cold.

I have about 400 miles on the KLX300. Last week I rode about 125 miles of forest roads and some nice twisties in between. Really happy with it so far. Been a few times I wished it had a bit more power but I has been plenty capable of doing everything I have wanted to do so far. I was riding with a guy on a Honda 450L and had no trouble keeping up but we were not pushing it too hard. Going to try some single track trails in the next few weeks and will see how it does for that.

Kids are going up a size. My son (six) gets the TTR90 and my daughter (nine) a KX65. Will be detuning the KX with a restrictor in the ex port to tame down the hit till she learns the clutch. With me riding it every time it gets on the pipe it's wheelie city. Their mother wasn't there when I bought it and hasn't seen it ridden at full tilt yet.

MSRP is $10.8 after the uncrate fee.

Sincerely, If you want a 300, go find a dealer with a leftover that wants to wheel and deal. If you're paying 11k plus fees, they aren't interested in moving inventory. The difference between a 21 and a 22 is BNG. @Twisted10

Case in point - here's one for $8.5

I bought my 2018 300 XCW "used" - with 0.6 miles and 15 minutes of runtime in March of 2020 for $7500 - with a Street Legal title.

I didn't figure there would be much "wheeling and dealing" being done on any motorcycles in demand with all the shortages.

You can *always* wheel and deal on last year's model - plus think of all the people that "pre-ordered" with Covidbux and then walked.

When's the last time you bought a new dirt bike? There aren't any left overs anymore. And my buddy just paid $10k for a YZ250F. $8400 MSRP.

The KTM dealers around here are cleaned out. Especially on 300s. You put your name down and wait in line to pay sticker plus fees.

it also depends on what part of the country you are in.  300 xc-ws and TEs sell extremely fast in washington/oregon/Idaho and are way harder to get.  You can get xcs and txs way easier but you need to do some suspension work for tight shit on those bikes.

93 Miles. Forgive me, using a stock photo made me think it was new. If the bike isn't trashed - he's only saving nearly 4k over his "local" stealership. What do you figure it has at most on it. 5 Hours? 10 Hours?

KTM's Warranty is 30 days for first purchase. Period. Full stop. Doesn't matter if you don't ride it.

I maintain what I said. If you pay more than MSRP - you're being scammed.

I've seen a lot of dirt bike listings where they put the hours in where the mileage would go. I'm curious the actual condition and hours of the bike.

I paid under MSRP for my 21 YZ250F last March with sales tax and freight included. But when my buddy went looking for the same deal starting in January they were nowhere to be found. He caved and forked over sticker plus fees last week. Drove 10 hours round trip to get it. And every KTM dealer around here is cleaned out completely. It's rough times man.

They definitely work as advertised. Stalling was pretty much eliminated on the 501. Install and setup was very easy.  Sort of a must have for four strokes in technical terrain imho. The cost though....

I have a rekluse on my 501 as well. It is an easy button type part for single track, it eliminates stalling and the 500 has so much power it damn near eliminates shifting.

Downsides are you can loose engine braking and no way to lock the rear with engine dead if you stall on a hill climb.

I had a 300 setup with a rekluse and a clake slr. I used the clutch lever as rear brake and I used the slr lever as clutch. I completely deleted the rear brake and rode like it was a mtb. I may make another one of those setups.

I rode a DRZ400 with one a couple years ago. It had the full system that replaced the entire assembly (basket, hub, pressure plate), not the cheaper drop in kit that uses a lot of stock components. It's triply feeling at first, but they are very cool. Makes the tight stuff a breeze. You can still use the clutch lever like normal. They don't hold up as well as a conventional clutch though, so if you are a serial clutch abuser, you'll be swapping plates more often. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews on durability with the cheaper kit.

I know everyone loves the 300, but a 150 is the real ticket in the woods around here. It's almost like riding a mountain bike compared to the bigger bikes and four strokes.

I wish I could afford more than one big dirt bike right now.

Gave the KTM a pre-surgery bath. Going to change out the fluids and then I have some parts to replace from my little crash last year (put it down in a wet wood decked bridge…first actual crash in 10 years of riding). New bars, grips, and brush guards on the way. Forgot I need a new shift lever as it got a little bent too. Gotta order that tomorrow. Went with Protaper Woods High bars so I don’t have to hunch over as much while standing. Can’t wait to try them out.

Bought them for trip on the Kentucky adventure trail. Week long 1k mile trip with lots of trail, gravel road and twisty country roads. They were the medium size. They held up very well and the consensus among the group was that they were the best bags. I think you will be happy with them.

First day of a two day trial. I should take my phone but it’s a pain in the ass.
