Gonna dump some of the stuff I rode this past year....
First up is Bald Eagle State Forest - Obvious GoPro Effect is in full swing. This shit was steep as fuck Bald Eagle Single Track (Segment 1) This is the big lookout up there. I had an awesome day riding with a buddy of mine. Unfortunately crashed pretty hard, sprained the fuck out of my wrist, smashed the pipe flat, and destroyed a helmet! Attached File Rock front and center is what my face hit. Clean through the chinbar - but that's why you wear a helmet kids. Attached File Attached File Attached File |

Another day spent riding was when I took a turn down a trail that I thought was intended for dual sport bikes - but apparently hasn't been maintained in a few years. Dozens of downed trees, path was basically impossible to find. Mistakes were made in Rothrock. Wouldn't recommend doing that again. Coming out was basically like riding down a deer run. Scary as hell - couldn't get the bike to stop - trying to fish it between trees the handlebars barely fit through. Naturally, I was riding *alone* that day - and having mechanical issues. No turning back at that point. Shoulder on and git er done.

Another day spent riding with a good buddy, riding double track with the good people up near Phillipsburg PA
Attached File Attached File A few weeks later we did a night ride - partying with people up in the ridges. Good times this summer. I've put ~300 miles on the XCW, which is a lot for a primarily dirt machine. Hoping to do another ~3-400 next year as well! Strongly recommend getting one of upgraded LED headlights from Cyclops if you're gonna do night riding. Money well spent! Attached File Attached File |

Depending heavily on preference, if you're more into making it into a bike that feels like a motocross bike, put the red spring in. It makes the bike into a "holy shit" wheelie monster. If you want something more relaxed; put the green spring in. It's all to taste. I prefer the green spring with the mild/wet map because it makes the bike an unstallable tractor at low RPM ranges; which helps my novice skills not be at the whims of my right wrist. Both bikes will CHUG down low. You're running a Rekluse too, which will help it hook up a good bit more. The 250 will certainly wind up quicker than the 300. It's still a monster too. Make sure to keep an eye on the CCPS, as well as keeping an eye on your oil tank. If the bike ever develops a low end gurgle or bog, one (or both) CCPS have probably gone up in smoke, and they will need replaced else you may end up torching a top/bottom end. A rare issue; but one worth knowing. Lastly; get out there and have fun! |

If you ordered a 390 racing you are going to be doing some work on that husky suspension after you ride the beta. Kreft is what you seek. They only work on white power and they will make it sweeeeeet. |

I see they took the big step up out which now looks like an uphill triple thing that leads to the pits. Super fun layout. I sent that uphill triple during my first session. Came up a little short and blew my throttle hand off the bars but I kept it on two wheels. Kind of tweaked my wrist a bit. I didn't try it again. It was giving a couple other guys on 250Fs problems as well. My friend on a 450 got it clean though. |

The green spring will give you that 1989 RM 125 powerband.
It's the stiff spring, it slows the opening of the power valve. When it goes full open you get that old school powerband hit in the high end of the powerband. The red spring is the soft spring, it allows the powervalve to open earlier. This will give you more power right off the bottom end and the midrange. It a progressive power curve, no hit. I find that it makes is a lot easier to ride in the slimey rock root infested PNW single track trails. Couple that with the black quick turn throttle reel and the power map and you have power on tap with no hesitation. Add in an FMF Gnarly pipe, a high compression head of your choice, play with the spring carriage and you have a bottom end / midrange monster. I hate having to wait for the power. There is a time and a place for the mild map. I have no use for the green, yellow or progressive (bronze) spring. Originally Posted By J-Pat: It is. First "long" trip was this weekend. Left Friday afternoon form my place in Ft. Lauderdale and rode down to a friend's place Key Largo. Rode home the next day, 85 miles each way avoiding the interstates. Great trip and some lessons learned. I told myself when I bought it I was going to keep it bone stock for at least the first 1000 miles. I'm glad though the racks and bags I ordered were at the door when I got home sat, as a backpack with any weight in it sucks after about 30 minutes. Also, and opposite of walking somewhere with a bag, having the shoulder straps loose seems to be way more comfortable than having them cinched down. I think a new seat is the next mod. |

My Beta 390 finally came in after sitting on a ship for quite a while. Sold the Husky 250 to a pro racer that really wanted it and got most of my money back out of it. First trail ride was a dream, can't wait to get the rekluse clutch and exhaust done. Manufacturing and supply chain is still hurting in those departments too. After my friend swapped bikes with me on our last trail ride (KTM450 six days) I was ready to be back into a 4 stroke. I ride them about 30% better than the 2 strokes |
