Just brought home two 2021 KTM 250 XC-F, one for me and the other for my 15yo son.

He has a 2019 KTM 150 two stroke and I am coming off of a 2005 Yamaha WR450F.

We rode them a few laps around on our 4.5 mile woods track and we are both stoked.

Very nice !

I rode a TTR225 for about 5 years.  Reminded me of my IT400 back in the day, but only a four stroke.

Here it is with the street wheels, tires, and smaller sprocket.

Rode my buddy's new 2020 YZ450F yesterday at Budds Creek. It's wide and a bit heavier feeling than my KX450F. Power seemed comparable, but the throttle was more twitchy coming off idle through quarter throttle. I would probably soften that part of the power out a bit to make it less tiring to ride. Overall good bike and I can see why people love them. E start is tits. I still want the 21 KX450 though.

Finally got it starting and running, just in time for 6 inches of snow in 4 days.

2002 YZ250f, with a 290cc bore kit. The plan is to get lights, mirrors, and a horn on it, then get it tagged so I can self-deploy to trails and such. It's a boatload of fun. STUPID quick too.

Over the winter, when there's snow on the ground, I plan on tearing down the whole bike, getting the frame powder coated and getting the forks and shock sent out to get re-sprung and valved for my weight.

Did some bling on the 300 in prep for spring.

Rk tek head

Trail tech rad guards

And a clake one

Believe it or not the rad guards were the hardest part to fit.  Everyone bitchs about bleeding the clake but it took 2 minutes with my mighty vac.

Took home a 2021 300 XC TPI last week and put a few hours on it yesterday. This is my first 2-stroke, coming off a 2017 YZ450F. I struggled with the 450 because my wife and I spend a lot of time on single track and she is fairly new and would just chug along on her TT-R230 while I had to haul ass at all times due to the gearing. Also got tired of flame outs and kickstarting on the side of a mountain. This KTM XC feels like the ultimate combo of motocross and enduro. I was half tempted to go with the 250 variant (dealer had one of each), but I also wanted my wife to feel comfortable with this one if she hopped on.

Get a guard for the tpi controller or whatever it is on the left side. It’s pretty exposed and easy to break in a single track get off.

Just ogling for now...looking at adding a DRZ 400S or SM to the stable.  Had an E model DRZ in the early 2k's, sold it around 2008 or so.  Had a KTM Duke II in the same time period, once I realized swapping rims/gearing on the DRZ all the time sucked.

Just getting back into bikes after a 10 year or so absence.  Already picked up the VFR I always wanted (Gen 5...98-01), and now I want something to for dual sport duty and light trails.  I've been all over the board, but I keep coming back to the DRZ.  I'm 44, unlikely to be super hooligan on the street, and the DRZ makes (or can make) "enough" power.  Plus, it's a tank known for reliability and long maintenance intervals.  The 600 mile oil changes on the CRF450L(?) turned me off...

Nice bike.

Have you ridden a newer Ktm 250 2T? The 300 is definitely more powerful. I’ve read on the internet that the 250 hits stronger and is more “racey” but I have just never experienced this. I’ve ridden quite a few of each and have a 2020 TE250i, you can certainly tell there are 50 less CC in every part of the powerband

If you want to wake up your 250 try a rk tek head. Rode my 300 with it for the first time yesterday and it is an insane difference. I was on a sand track and I cant wait to try it on single track.

Got my 13yr old a '21 KTM 85SX (19/16) in early Dec. Wed we went back and picked up a pair of '21 300 XC for me and my 15yr old. Was SUPER pumped to realize they are sequential VINs.

We are coming off YZ250's ('00 & '09) that have been great bikes, but it's time for them to move on to someone else.

80s (1984?) XR500R, I bought it "new" in 1995. It had 5 min run time on it.

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b262/die-tryin/photo1-1.jpg

Funny story about the CR,,a guy bought it and literally flipped it on the first time out and put it away for years..it got sold to a bike shop and I picked it up,,need brakes gone thru and an actual proper break-in since it literally had about 5 min run time prior to me getting it. Thing was a beast, ran great, but after an hour of riding, was a bear to kick start and being 5'8" didnt help me much. lol.

sorry bout pics,,they were taken long time ago.. lol

From Saturday’s ride.

At about the 184 mile mark for the day. Going 35-40 mph standing. Boom! Waaaaaaaaahhhhh!! Clutch! Brake!  Keep her under control! Got her stopped right side up. WTF!?!!!!!

How I didn’t go down I got no idea.

About 30 yds back I found the offending rock that was hiding in the shadows of the setting sun. Retrieved as a souvenir.

Last 5 miles done via truck. Only the 2nd time in nearly 21,000 miles of hard riding that’s happened.

I love my 2000 DRZ400s. It's my only bike now. Sold my 2016 Suzuki GSX-S1000 and 2002 Triumph Daytona 955 but kept the DRZ. It's stupid reliable, easy to fix if it ever does break, parts are as easy to come by as basically any bike that ever existed due to it being unchanged from 2000 through current 2021 models. I think about a KTM 690 from time to time but just can't bring myself to give up the DRZ. I did a 434 kit, stage 2 cams, single layer base gasket last spring with a full exhaust, jet kit and it's fast enough. I dont do much off-road, just dirt roads here and there.

Thanks. Don’t know how I didn’t go down. Standing helped a lot but still a hell of a hit.

As far as WRs, there’s used ones out there.

I got mine off Craigslist with 250 miles on it for about 1/2 price of new.
