Hi.

I want to improve my computer.  Since I'm not an intensive user and would like to do this somewhat cheaply, it makes more sense to buy older and/or used parts.

I've looked around the forums I know, and a few have removed their buy/sell areas, presumably to funnel more traffic to the sponsors.

Where should I look for people offloading their computers/components?

Thanks

Around here we have a once a month sidewalk sale, where vendors come and sell all manner of junk electronics (I mean junk...)... But some of it is good stuff.

You might ask around your area and see if there is something like that going on.  Sometimes the small computer shops will hang onto dated stuff just in case, you might be able to pick stuff like that up cheap.

What do you want/need? I have a stock pile of stuff here sitting in boxes.

DDR, video card, wouldn't object to a decent processor/board.

Take it to e-mail IM?

Check crag’s list... also, you may want to see if the local goodwill has a computer outlet.

I generally try Craigslist, then Ebay.

You can design a system using 1 generation old parts and save a huge bundle of money.

That's the idea.  However, as I'm being moved about every 4 days, it's going to have to wait.  No internet, either, apart from the library.

Thanks all.

So, how does this look:

Another half gig of DDR
Plus assorted drives, Win2K, etc, etc.

No idea on the video card, I'm out of my usual stomping grounds.

Appreciate any insight.
Thanks.
