so where were you that you were able to stand under a branch with a mountain lion in it like so, what's the story with that?

Here's a copy of a thread I posted in the Team Forum a few weeks ago, with some pictures from a recent dive trip.

-----------------------------

So here are some of my favorite shots from the diving (we spend six days diving - usually three dives a day, sometimes four).

This is a close-up of some soft coral that came out really nice.  These things grow in long strands that "wave" in the current and surge.

You'd usually find a moray eel or two on every dive.  Often green ones, but also the black/white spotted ones and occasionally the gold spotted variety.  This guy was fairly large.

Banded coral shrimp.  A cleaner shrimp - this guy was hiding in the wall of a large barrel sponge.

A flamingo tongue, which is a type of snail or slug.  (For the nerds, it is NOT a nudibranch, but similar size).  These are perhaps an inch long and very colorful.

Awesome yellow seahorse.  These guys are about 4 inches long (I'm guessing here - didn't bring a ruler) and grab onto soft coral with their tails and freeze when you are near.  You'd think that a bright yellow thing is easy to find, but they are very hard to locate.

Came across a school of squid on one of the dives and managed a few lucky shots.  Hilarious-looking creature.

Largish soft coral (this one at about 100-110 feet depth) - there were lots of these, and it's in things like these (often at the base) and others like them, that the seahorses will hang out.

Cleaner shrimp inside an anemone - I really like this picture.  Because I like the small stuff, I always look hard at anemonies, and found two shrimp in this one.  The "big" one in the foreground is pretty small - maybe the size of a nickle or dime.  I thought at first it was a Pederson's cleaner shrimp, but it's not. The one in the background (top right corner) is a spotted cleaner shrimp I think, and is significantly smaller.

A fairly large barracuda - hanging out above a wreck.  Most wrecks will have at least one large barracuda that "owns" it.  Some wrecks will have tons of them.  This guy was beautiful, and I got another couple of nice shots of him.

Another seahorse.  The picture is pretty nice, showing off the small subtle spots in his coloring.  Also well hidden.

A view of what some of the coral looks like in Roatan.  Very good coral structure, and a pleasure to dive.  No real current to speak of, and good visibility.

A darker colored sea horse, and a pretty good picture, with the other colors in the background.  The seahorses came in a lot of different colors, but mostly variations of white, black and yellow.  At least the ones we saw did - we saw a total of elevent different ones over the six days.

This is a Pederson cleaner shrimp (smaller than a quarter).  They almost always hang out around the corkscrew anemone you can see behind it - which are very small and hidden in cracks and holes.

This is a juvenile (or some small variant) of a slender file-fish.  I'd only ever seen one once before, several years ago, but my wife found this one and a couple of adults on a different dive.  They are small (this one maybe an inch long) and hide very effectively in the soft coral and they move with it, so they are extremely hard to find.  I was impossible to photograph the adults, because they always moved slightly to always be covered by coral - but this little guy was inexperienced, I guess.   (As an aside, when I was positioning myself to take the shot I discovered that the coral they hide in also stings! )

I love this picture.  It's of another flamingo tongue, and just turned out great.

There you go - some nerdy underwater pictures from Roatan in Honduras.  The seahorses alone were worth the trip!

DK=Prof - Those underwater photos are great. It's late so I'll only post one -

North tower of the Golden Gate Bridge. Taken handheld from a moving ship.  If you zoom in on it the detail came out very well.
