Just ran across a video on facebook talking about the Super Moon tonight. Going to try to set up and photo it.

Why is it Called the Harvest Moon?

For several evenings, the moonrise comes soon after sunset. This results in an  abundance of bright moonlight early in the evening, which was a traditional aide to farmers and crews harvesting their summer-grown crops. Hence, it’s called the “Harvest” Moon!

Probably one of the better shots I got last night. I was disappointed that it didn't have orange/reddish tint as it normally does, but oh well. Spent about 90 minutes out there with my 13 yr old son, who just got his 1st dslr (Nikon D80). We had fun shooting and me trying to teach him with the limited amount of knowledge I had. Anyways, this was with my D7000, Tamron f8 500mm Mirror lens on the tripod. ISO 400, 1/160th

Get it into photoshop and bring down the exposure a bit.

What Zack said.

This is my shot unprocessed/uncropped.  PS/LR can do amazing things with raw images.

Ok, just played around in LightZone for a couple minutes, 1st time using this program. Did a little tweaks and a crop. Opinions please. Still a slight out of focus, but I think that is from my older eyes not seeing crisp anymore. May have to wear some reading glasses for now on.

I cropped it in a good bit. I'm still not happy with the results. I will have to play with the software more when I have time.

That's because it's a full moon.

Shoot it between 1/2 and 3/4 or so for best results.
