Awesome shot.  Do you spot meter and then EV +.03 or ?  Bright sky and dark aircraft is the bane of my existence in terms of exposing properly.

Combined around ~2 minutes realtime.  I had to chop it due to my horrible upload speed.

As far as static I spot meter on my subject and play around a bit. I'll take several frames +/- on the exposure and see which one I can balance the best in post. Don't be afraid to do another exposure layer specifically for either the sky or your subject.

In the air, it's spot meter, 9 point AF, shutter speed priority and let 'er rip. If I find my shutter speed is too low/high for the light I'll +/- 1/3 EV. I check after every string or two to see if I need to adjust EV or shutter.

The lights you see on the buttress are from arfcom member RTUtah and me.  We got off to a late start in the Linville Gorge, and knew we'd be finishing up by headlamp.

This is a composite from a time lapse taken with Hero5B on an external battery, and it was sitting with all the batteries, something I realized only when I went to change out the battery in my Hero6 before setting out for the climb.  With a dead battery in the 6, the only photos we have are from across the amphitheater.  Since we were already losing light as it was, I wasn't going lose any more time to traverse all the way over to get the extra batteries.

It's not a great photo, but I'm glad I was able to salvage something.

Got a rare treat today, a USAF E-4B fresh out of overhaul was doing approach practice at a local airport. Here it is with a Cessna 172 that was happy to comply with the tower's instruction to hold short of the runway lol.

Cardigan Corgi, blue merle coloration (an accepted color in the Cardigans, but not in Pembrokes).

Cardigans get to keep their tails.

Wow, for first time photographing aircraft, you set yourself a bit of a challenge

Balancing your shutter speed between capturing clarity vs showing a bit of prop blur is going to be your hardest part, but it looks like you're off to a great start! Just find a compromise you're happy with (or able to get some decent keepers) and run with it.

Thanks y'all, I wanted to go out there again today. Unfortunately, I'm a little under the weather today.

those first 2 were with the 70-200. I hadn't gone through all of them, but here is one with 200-500 as well.

Went climbing again this weekend, this time in much warmer conditions in Alabama.  Got some good aerial footage of some climbers, some star trail time lapses, some sunrise time lapses and a couple decent stills.

Check out my new Nikon!!

This thing is awesome.  Distance (horizontal and slope), slope angle, and height.  Built in electronic clinometer as well.  No more pulling a fucking baseline with the logger's tape to get heights with the clinometer.

Battery is supposed to be good for 13,000 activations of the laser.
