This was 30 seconds at ISO 100 and I think like F16 or so.  2 images, stacked in Affinity Photo.  I took a bunch of exposures but those were the only two with lightning in them.  I have a lot more from later in the storm, but that was much later after sunset, so the clouds and sky are less interesting.

IR is so cool.  I'd love to mess with it one day.

This looks like a good candidate for a focus stack to get that one large foreground rock in focus, but it's a beautiful picture as-is.

Hummingbirds are my nemesis.  I can't ever get close enough, and struggle with the limitations of my gear.  All my telephotos are on the cheap end of the spectrum so the maximum aperture is usually F5.6 or worse, and a fast enough shutter to freeze their wings and let me hand-hold the camera gets me into ISO 1000 and above territory, so everything comes out grainy.

I think next year I'm going to try setting the camera up right by a feeder and triggering the shutter remotely.  That will let me use a much sharper lens without being so close as to scare them away.  I tested it out and it worked really well for getting close shots of chipmunks.

That’s just weird looking. I’ve got a strange angle shot I’ll try to edit and post.

Tell you what though, yesterday was the first time the Blue Angels have come to my area in my adult life. That was a great freaking show.

I always find myself looking for the opportunity to take odd shots.  Its challenging to get the shot and intriguing for the people looking at them.

Sometimes I get incredibly lucky.

So I've been working on a nasty piece of dirt down in Surry County this week, and staying in Williamsburg.

VDOT (Virginia's Dept. of Transportation) operates a FREE ferry between Surry County and Jamestown, across the Mighty James River, and I've been able to ride the ferry every morning and evening.  Saves me about 50 miles of driving every day.

Might not be a big deal for some of you guys, but I think it's the cat's pajamas.

There's three boats that I've seen; the Surry, the Powhatan, and the Williamsburg.  I've been on the Powhatan and the Surry.  Maybe tomorrow I'll get to ride the Williamsburg.

And just for fun, here's that old newspaper shot of me as  young lad in Richmond, maybe 40-50 miles upstream.

Finished cruising the swamp today.  Only about 500,000,000 mosquitos per acre.  And about an equal number of yellow flies and deer flies.  The flies get you when you move, the mosquitos get you when you stand still.

This type of site embodies EVERYTHING I hate about my job.

But, work is work, and sometimes you just gotta nut up and grunt it out.

It looks like I was lower and a little closer,  mine was shot at 24mm and yours was 78.

That's an awesome shot; hottie stretching, cop Explorer in background bokeh, and then I see that white bra in the cutout in her dress.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but that kills the whole shot for me.

Granted, it's an easy fix in PS, and not much you could do it at the time unless it grabbed your eye, but my word it just leapt out at me.

But, photo a day!!

@FredMan thanks for the CC, to be honest I didn't even notice.   After checking focus around the eyes while culling photos I do minimal post processing,  didn't see the bra because Chloe has fantastic skin and wasn't any need to zoom in with the clone stamp tool so I just never noticed it.  What I did notice was that focus was soft around the eyes,   way softer than I usually allow.  But the cop car wasn't at the light long, and the pose and everything else worked so I kept it.

This one is a little blown out in the Lagoon nebula, but I'm sure I have a sequence that preserves the purple highlights.  Somewhere.

It's just painful to sort through stuff on a laptop.  Even worse with *my* laptop.

When I find the sweet spot exposure, I'll stack images, and this should clean up pretty well...

The haze from the California fires is definitely noticeable out here.
