I used some small battery powered Christmas lights and used a flash to light the toy.

Yeah, I was watching my six the whole time.  Transporting ammo and NFA weapons.  And a handgun.  And dead birds.

Certain NFA things are fine here (except Crook Co.)

I don't get out to take pictures much, and this wasn't taken today, but I will try to pop in from time to time.

Just found this guy's nest on one of my timber sales.

Now we gotta figure out how we're going to accommodate him.  Probably cost me half my volume, or about $40,000 in timber revenue.

Thanks!  There's awesomeness on so many levels there.

But, in other news, guess what the nice man in the brown truck brought me yesterday?

2 minute exposure going under the Mackinac Bridge a week ago.  I'm amazed it turned out this well with all the vibration of the ship's engines.

Thanks.  I've taken a few long exposures going under bridges like that.  Just trying to make it more interesting and different than the shots other sailors take.

A first pass at the photo session from this morning.

Looking Glass Rock, NC

35mm 30s f/1.8 ISO640

[30 seconds?  Way too long for that focal length.  Yes.  But this photo was pulled from a series intended to do star trails, not a still with pinpoint stars.  I have to dive deeper into the session to find my 8-10 second exposure stacks.  This was just the first thing I grabbed.  Also layered a foreground from a successive image to bring out a bit more detail that will probably come through when I process the stacked images.  The exposure is the same as what I was able to get out of a single image, but the foreground layer reduces the noise a bit.]

ETA:
Same idea.  Different camera settings and approach.  Little later in the morning.

35mm 5s f/1.8 ISO800, 11 consecutive frames stacked for noise reduction
+ 1 twilight frame for better definition in the rock face, 1/4s f/1.8 ISO400
+ 1 frame at 1/15s f/1.8 ISO1600 for the moon

This gives me good definition in the Ptolemy and Butterfly groups, and probably workable raw files to go back in and bring out more definition in the Lagoon and Omega nebulas.
