That's what I have, it's pretty great.

I just have to live with a button to limit throttle response as an afterburner gate.  Not terrible, but less than ideal.

I have an X56. I enjoy it, it has some quarks like the throttle resistance control doesn't really do much. It could be stiff for your first 5 minutes of flying and then at random the throttle is nice and loose. But for the money I think it's great. Especially for VR with all the programmable switches, buttons and axis controls. I really would love some Virpil gear though....and this thread is not helping me....

I used an X-56 for many years.  It’s the best lower end stick I’ve tried.

With VR forget about binding stuff. The only modules that suck in VR are the FC3 ones cuz you do have to bind everything. Otherwise get finger trackers and use the plane like its meant to be flown, i.e. flip the switches push the button in VR. Like bind the HOTAS like it should be or as close as you can get and then just click in the pit. The only non HOTAS stuff I have bound for VR are buttons that are a huge pain to deal with in VR (in obscure places, i.e. the ejection seat in the tomcat or the parking brake in the harrier etc.

Nah, I like everything bound. No plans or want to buy anything for finger/hand tracking. Just not worth the money to me.

I agree with you, but i think Il2 is better in term of WW2, because of the damage model.

I would like il2 to have clickable cockpit and true cockpit management though

last week I flew Enigma's cold war with my 7 year old nephew on my laps...

great combo... because he has fucking great eyes... I asked 'overlord' bearing to threats and he would see them like 20miles out...

we flew the F-5 and it was like a turkey shoot.. Fishbeds, Farmers, Fulcrums, and Badgers.. we got everything. i'd say maybe 20kills for only 2 deaths, one crash and one Manpad..

I must say, lots of unskilled pilots on enigma though.. doing hit and run' from low alt with the F-5E is really easy.. especially with ALL aspects IR missiles..

the only thing i would change in enigma is switch to rear aspect only (like the other cold war server).. it would make way more merges and turning fights.

Is there a decent head or IR tracker out there?  I tried using Viewtracker from Steam but it is super unstable when trying to zoom in.  Makes it impossible to keep controls where I can see them.  I've tried adjusting the smoothness and adding dead zones but nothing seems to help.

My Pro unfortunately broke shortly after I got it, it's kind of delicate (although I believe mine broke in a move).

I've used the hat clip since then and TBH I haven't missed the Pro. I'm sure it's a bit more accurate, but I haven't really cared enough to buy a new one.

I remember there being some IMU setups in the LOMAC days you could DIY for head tracking without the IR camera or a hat/headset clip. Seems like IMUs have gotten a lot cheaper and a lot better since then. Is anyone selling something easy?

I'd give that a shot over TrackIR, my trackir can't handle anything reflective in the room, sunlight on the wall, etc.

I went through two Clip Pros before I decided I was done with their terribly designed crap.  I now have the DELANCLiP as my IR source.

Why has NatrualPoint not improved their design since 2009 when the 5 was released?  Because they don't care.  They sit a patent an make enough money to be comfortable without working too hard.

The Pro Clip is a flimsy POS.

I used the hat clip forever, I picked up the wireless DelanClip, the range of motion is waaay better than the hat clip, however the battery life is disappointing, maybe 5ish hours.

Looks like it was just a one day delay. I'm disappointed they didn't offer for preorder on steam. If they had I may have impulse bought but I won't pay $80 as I'm not that terribly interested in this aircraft. Hopefully the F4 can come before winter.

Pretty sure pre-order's for 3rd party stuff are no longer a thing. ED got burned on the F14 and changed policy after that. Jeff and mig19 had no pre-sale either IIRC.

There is an EA discount for the ED store, but no discount on steam currently.

So here's my review of the Mirage F1 so far.   As I usually do with new birds... I just learn the cold start and then go do a general VFR sight-seeing flight for about 45 minutes to get a feel for the flight model and where all the instruments are located.

NICE airplane.  It's fast and feels quite like the F16 to me, lacking of course the Viper's greater stability at higher AOAs.  But as a Viper guy, it feels very familiar speed and acceleration wise at low-to-medium altitudes, and I'd say it might even have a better cruise performance above 30K, but I'm still working that out.  Fuel consumption is great... sort of like the M2000 if you fly that one.  Relative to the M2000, the flight model on this one feels like it has a bit more character vs the M2000's sort of 'fly on rails' feel, especially when at higher speeds.  It's a nice flight model in my opinion.

Cool thing unique about it... the Mirage F1 has the nicest angle-of-attack indicator of any airplane I've ever seen.  You'll see what I mean.  It's super slick vs the donut type indicator lights and far easier to use.  Cockpit is very cool... it's a real "hands on" airplane with lots to click and adjust.  It would be a really cool simpit if anyone ever built one for that reason.

Early access issue: I'm having pretty bad frame rates with it from time to time and I'm about 99% sure it's the module and not DCS or my system or the map I'm running.  Not sure if anyone else is seeing that, but Aerges may have some performance work to do.  Definitely feels a little rough around the edges in that regard.  EDIT: i'm finding this is directly related to having the radar on.

Haven't done anything other than that in the bird.  Probably will workout the nav and autopilot systems next.

How did ED get burned?

And second, do people not track modules as being 3rd parties? I constantly see here, Reddit, Discord, and the forums where folks can't seem to keep track of the fact that ED isn't developing/delaying the release of modules. ED is not developing the F-1, it's Aerges. Same with the F-4, it's 0% ED, 100% Heatblur. The delay on release was because apparently at the last second the final "release" build had a massive FPS issue with the radar.

Yeah I'd agree with everything here. The damage modeling (if not the external model) is actually really great too. It has multiple failure modes if you take light damage, and even if you fuck up and take it high alt systems can fail. Which for an EA module is great (hell even "finished" modules basically lack this).

The key "problem" area for it is the that the radar model is basically FC3 with "sparkle" texture for the "clutter" which is basically a joke. But I'm mostly hoping this is a placeholder and they put some serious time in like Razbam did for the Mirage 2k and that radar model. Though the Cyrano was by all accounts pretty much worthless in lookdown and at low altitudes and being an MTI not a PD radar it should have some additional limitations. Additionally, some of the AAM's are also broken but that should be pretty easy to sort out as it seems like they accidentally swapped seekers for two of the missiles. The only other minor issue is that some of the bindings are fucked up and don't work or don't work right but that is pretty easy to fix hopefully.

Overall the module IMO is in a great state for EA, and given Aerges previous work on the C101 I look forward to it developing.

Obviously I'm not aware of all the details but the story as I heard it, is when ED put in the expected release date (per steam rules), and then HB didn't deliver by that date (cuz DCS), then there were some serious breach of contract issues with Steam about that. So, pretty much ever since there hasn't been a single 3rd party sold with "pre-sale" period. It hits the steam store and thats it.

IDK what you mean about tracking 3rd parties, but overall I think the enthusiasts know whats what, but most casual DCS players don't care to anywhere that level of detail.
