Got my wish. There was a light drizzle the whole time, felt great.

2x 4 mile repeats at lactate threshold today.

This was the first time I have done 4 miles in the second set, and I certainly could tell the difference by the last half mile.
Running these on roads with rolling hills, as opposed to a track is really helping. I'm not running as fast as I would on a track, but I'm beginning to learn how my pace differs at a given effort level across the different hills. This should come in handy during my hilly fall races.

I make it a point to push it on the uphill. It's not much, but every little bit helps. I find it easier to "coast" on the downhill rather than trying to gain speed there. Making myself gain on the uphill runs definitely helps if I do need to pick up speed on a downhill. I rarely run on a track if I can avoid it.

Meant to run 11 ish today, thought I would try a new route, apparently I miss calculated. Once you commit to a loop you pretty much have to finish it.

Spent the last eight days antelope hunting in Montana, many hours spent driving, glassing, and sitting in blinds, not much time for running.

Terrible timing for my training schedule. I swear I could feel my leg muscles atrophy while sitting for hours on end.

I'll get in a half or so tomorrow and get back to schedule next week.

This is the critical question!

I have an elk hunting trip to Colorado in the middle of October that will absolutely throw a wrench in an otherwise great training cycle.

Zero miles today!

I'm headed to WY in mid October for elk as well. I plan to get some miles in every day until then though.

ETA: I'm a dumbass and forgot to charge my watch again, it died in the first mile. I ran the exact same route I did on the 17th, so I will go with that mileage.

Nope no goat. I was holding out for something over 14" but there was really only one buck I could find that looked that tall. I passed several smaller bucks waiting him out.

There is a lot of water this year that hasn't been there in years past. They can get water almost anywhere, and weren't forced to my honey holes.

I may go back for a weekend hunt in the next couple weeks.

At least elk hunting you should get plenty of hiking miles in, along with a bunch of elevation. Post pics.

After this mornings run I don't think the week off hurt me to bad. Next week will tell the tail though.

I missed a number or messed up on adding or something along the way. Garmin and Nike both show me over 800. Oh well, I will break 800 tomorrow. My goal was to get there by the end of August to make up for my lack of miles in June.

I'm counting on the hiking and elevation to help maintain some fitness (I'm at about 1,200' ASL). I plan on taking some running stuff with me just in case I can run some, since I have a half marathon the weekend after the trip is over.
We'll be the only people on this ranch, so my chances of being confused with a red and yellow-clad elk are pretty minimal if I do run.

And of course I'll take pics.

Two four-mile segments at lactate threshold effort this morning. I felt great the entire time, which was awesome since I bailed on the second half of this workout last week when I didn't feel like I could handle all of it.

Guess I missed this back in Jan.
3.05 this morning/344.2 for the year

Also ran the first race of my life last month, a 5k. Only took me 66 years to get around to it.
Welcome! How was the race? What'd you think of it?
It was good. It was an impulse entry. I figured, "you're gonna run 3 miles in the morning anyway, might as well run a race".  As I get older I find many of my decisions are prefaced with, "fuck it"

Haven't signed up for another one yet. I might do one in Oct if it doesn't interfere with hunting. Only doing about 15 miles a week right now. Not in the same league with most of you guys.
