I have cleaned the bolt, receiver, and barrel in my .308 but I am having trouble cleaning in the chamber and were the bolt locks in place. I have an idea to either get a 7.62 AR chamber brush or whatever gauge / caliber brush is the size of .308 brass and cover either one with a patch, but I am guessing that's not the best way to go about it. What does everyone else use?

I do, in fact, use a cotton patch over a (Hoppe's) bronze brush for everything except 22 caliber firearms.  I, also, have an assortment of small toothbrushes that I use.  Soaking the barrel, and other parts, overnight helps.  My favorite gun cleaner?  Flitz Metal Polish.  (Which is chemically identical to Iosso's Bore Cleaner, and, 'Lead Away' cleaning cloths.)  My favorite soak-bath solution?  There are several:  Kroil, Break Free, 'CLP', Automatic Transmission Fluid, or just plain kerosene.

My favorite longterm gun preservative - Especially for outside surfaces?  (Ready?)  FrogLube!

shotgun mop. If you need more aggressive than that then a phosphor bronze bore brush on a pistol length rod. I avoid aggressive chamber cleaning. It almost never needs it.

A .45 caliber Nylon rifle brush on a pistol rod works. Then there's a medium chamber mop as well.

They really don't need it.  DI guns do of course.

I use good ol' hoppes no 9, and a .45 cal brush for the chamber area, and a 9mm brush for the chamber neck area.

A .44 or .45 bronze brush works in a .308 chamber.  I also wrap a patch around the bristles to catch the material the brush digs up.

I use a curved medical scissors type clamp to hold a couple tips cut off a q-tip.  I put some M-Pro 7 on them and then just spin them around the inside of the chamber and lugs.  I do the same for AR15 type rifles.

I bought those star shaped plug cleaners, but the damn thing just spun on the tool/holder.  I sent them back.  Maybe there is a better design of that tool, but I sure wasn't lucky enough to find it.

For 30 cal I use a 45 cal bore mop to get the chamber.  I use a 22 cal bore mop to get the neck and throat.
