I've got an 18" 308 right now but want to move into 6.5CM.

I'm looking at barrels and stuck on 20" or 22" with a +2 gas system.

This is the rifle right now. I plan to swap to an Atlas Bipod. A Magpul PRS stock may happen as well.

Well, if you have the money to shit barrels, I'd advocate for the 6 Creedmoor.  It's a bitchin' little round, but I am a 6.5 fan, only because I don't like needing a new barrel every 1500 rounds.

Right now, I run an LRP 07 in .260.  It's as precision as any rifle can get, it is overwhelmingly accurate.

Have the MWS in .308 and plan on getting a 6.5 barrel one day. The .308 does fine though for the ranges I'm shooting.

SFM,
I recognize that range in your pic. Am also a member of that club.

Bring your 18in 308 over to the High Power range and stretch its legs.

I have a 20in 6.5C and an 18in 6.5g that I shoot out to 600yds.

From now till Sept, all weekends will be managed practice on the 600yd range. Just get there around 7:30am for squadding and we will be shooting by 8:15am till it gets too hot and people quit.

Come out this Sunday and I will be there, introduce yourself and I will let you test out my 6.5's to see if it is what you are looking for.

My 6.5C is a 20in with rlgs, shoots great.

How far do you plan on shooting(consistently)?

If it's 1000 or less I would honestly go with a 6.5 Grendel

1000+ I would either go with 6.5 CM or 260 Remington or 6.5X47 or 6.5X284. For extreme long range 338 Lapua Mag all the way.

Just my .02 worth.

It will usually be 600, occasionally 1K and a Grendel build is in the works for sure.

I want this rifle for room to grow, I'll eventually have greater distances to enjoy.

Since you have a .308 you won't be swapping to 6.5G. Your choices are 6mm Creedmoor/6.5 Creedmoor or .260 if you are looking for relatively common with some factory ammo available. 6mm Creedmoor is almost imperceptibly better at close ranges and slightly worse at long ranges, for target shiiting but has very little factory ammo, has much less stopping and penetrating power, and a 30% reduction in barrel life. 6.5 Creedmoor is easier to seat the bullet to correct length than .260 when using the best combination of accuracy, BC, price and terminal ballistics, the 6.5 140 ELD-M. Hornady also has a factory 140 ELD-M loading that is a sub half MOA capable load.

6.5 Creedmoor has the flight ballistics of 300 Win Mag, but it a short action non magum load that has 2/3 the recoil of .308 you have now.

Fulton armory barrels are all 15% off right now.  I ordered another Kreiger barrel to replace the other one when I shoot it out.

The 6.5cm is damn near the only thing I shoot anymore.  Going from 100yds to 500 is a cakewalk. 600+ is so much easier with the cm than the 308.  Less drop, less wind drift.

I use an adjustable gas block and an old PWS PRC comp to get recoil down to a heavy 223 feel.

It's a great round.

ETA: this afternoon I was writing down dope on factory rounds.  I had 140 and 147 eldm, 143 expedition (Winchester), and fgmm 130s.  At 315 yards I shot one 5 round group at 1.25" and one that was slightly larger.  This was with federal gold medal 130gr bergers.  The 140 eldm will routinely shoot 5rd groups into 2" at the same distance. My biggest problem is remembering to let the barrel cool.
