I had a b&c m40a1 stock with ptg bottom metal, a steel picatinny rail for my scope and it shot great. It just didn't handle great so I sold it off after one hunting season. I think it was 12lbs loaded.
It's been back in the factory plastic but the biggest thing I don't like was that I had to cycle all the rounds out. I like the factory mags and decided to convert. I also like shooting with a tight sling and the plastic stock will flex
I found an accustock at numerichs for a good price and factory bottom metal on eBay for cheap as well. I could have had a gunsmith replace the recoil lug with one compatable with the accustock but decided to Dremel the stock out instead.
I did a little bit over a few days if I had the time. Then I got some of that steel reinforced jbweld putty. I wrapped the action in seran wrap and pressed it in where I dremeled. Front and rear of the recoil lug. Then tightened her up.
After letting it sit a few minutes I took it apart and removed the seran wrap. It looks pretty good. I'll double check my zero in a few days before I get out hunting again.
Now it's 10lbs loaded with scope/sling/picatinny adapter for my bipod. I'm also using a Leupold 2 peice base/rings which lowers the scope a lot which makes it a lot handier.
