This rifle caught my eye. What will  I lose in a 16.5 barrel  in 308.  I been wanting a compact bolt gun.  I have a FN spra1 in 308  .SO keeping it in 308 would be nice. Opinions welcomed  . Wardawg

Probably 300fps and a couple pounds off a 24".

The weight is what I'm kinda aiming for. You don't want to carry my FN SPR A1 around.  She is a extremely accurate rifle but weighs a ton. I was thinking medium range  rifle, short and handy.Like I stated keeping it in .308 would benefit me being I have that in a long range rifle already.WD

16.5 R700 1000y link

It's hard to beat a 700. I'm currently building one in 308 at 18.5"

Will be doing a 16.5 in the near future

I have had one for a few years that I hunt with. I like it a lot but would like to put a new stock on it when I have the money. I haven’t looked into what would be a good replacement. I ultimately want to keep it more of a woods gun than benchrest.

The Bell and Carlson M40 stock is hard to beat for $250 retail.  $175-$200 used. Direct replacement with an aluminum bedding block.
ETA: Pictures NOT MINE

If you have any questions feel free to let me know.  I've built a few 700s and will probably have a few more before it's all over with.

Current thing I'm working on: https://www.ar15.com/forums/precision-rifles/Decided-to-build-a-Bolt-gun-/3-6809/

Sweet. When is the return date expected?  Are DNZ one piece mounts strong enough for .308 ? I'm wanting strong mount set up but would like to keep weight in check when possible .Cheers Wardawg

Yes the DNZ one piece is a great mount. I ran one my sps tactical 20"' and loved it.

Hopefully the new rifle will be out of the shop early next week.
