Just finished my first rattle can job.  I'm trying to sell the scope so I just wrapped it in MC pattern ace bandage stuff for the time being.  The pictures are pretty low quality.  My Nikon D60 is getting pretty old.

That is a real nice looking match gun.  Did it go to Ataberry this year for the NRA National's?

Finally was able to get my RPR to the range.

Attachment Attached File

Didn't have much time because I had a lot of stuff to get done today.

All shots were taken with Hornady American Gunner 140 bthp
Attachment Attached File

Attachment Attached File

Shot twice at 25 yards and twice at 50. Then I went out to 100 yards to see what kind of groups I would get.

Attachment Attached File

The far left target has my first shots at 100 without adjustment. Middle and right targets are after making a few clicks to the left.

Attachment Attached File

Time was a factor so I didn't give the barrel time to cool. Just loaded another 5 rounds and adjusted the scope.

Far right target is 10 shots I took in under 1 1/2 minutes. Wasn't in a rush but didn't let it cool down between shots.

Next post will have results.

Yeah those were my thoughts exactly when I measured them.

Pretty impressed with the Hornady AG 140 bthps. For 88 cents a shot they performed great.

I'll have to set up a day where I'm not dealing with other pressing issues and can take my time and relax.

Overall, I love this Ruger.

Shooting the same ammo out of  Howa HCR yielded a .391 MOA group. I'm really impressed with the Hornady American Gunner.

You can get a rough calculation from the Hornady website.  For example, using the data they print for that round out of their 24" test barrel, at 2710 f/s , I got the following:

Range  Trajectory  Come Up (MOA)  Come Up (MILS)
0         -1.5           0.0                         0.0
100      1.9         - 1.8                       -0.5
200       0.0          0.0                         0.0
300      -7.8          2.5                         0.7
400      -22.3        5.3                         1.6
500      -44.4        8.5                         2.5
600      -74.9      11.9                         3.5
700      -115.1    15.7                         4.6
800      -166.3    19.8                         5.8
900       -229.9   24.4                         7.1
1000     -307.9   29.4                         8.6

ETA - The table looked fine originally.  Now it is all screwy.  Sorry!

Layer 1 I used Rustoleum Satin Fossil then added small stencils.

Layer 2 was Rustoleum Dark Brown then added small stencils.

Layer 3 was Magic brand Camo Khaki blended to Krylon Italian Olive then add large stencils

Layer 4 was rustoleum Matte burlap blended with  rustoleum chestnut brown in the opposite direction of layer 3.

It was a big no-go. I didn't see any way to make a Geissele nut work with the RPR.

I'll probably end up going with an SLR.

Those are offset sights unless my eyes deceive me.  (You do appear to live in a potato....)

What sights are they?  Also, how much was this conversion?  I've been thinking about getting a RPR and this conversion back and forth to/from tactical rifle to match guns seems like a pretty cool idea...

@secretwheelman

What was the issue? I thought the PVA barrel nut would let you run any AR rail as long as there were no clearance issues with the receiver.

Not offsets at all.

The bloop tube is a 6 inch Houle tube with a band. Front sight is a Phoenix precision long range sight. Rear sight is Phoenix rear top mount.

The buttstock is a White Oak Armament Match stock. The grip is a tubb match grip and the tube is a white oak 2.25 free float.

Thinking of picking up a .308, cut the barrel to 16" and replace the stock with a CTR with riser. Estimate about 1.5 pounds saved? I believe the barrel would be about 1 and the difference in stocks .5? As I understand, the folder would still be functional.

Thoughts?

Mark

The inside of the G rail has a step that stops on the nut, which prevents the rail from being flush with the receiver. If you machined out the step, the rail would slide back up against the upper, but then the cross bolt channels wouldn't line up with the barrel nut.

Are there any 20 rd magazines in 6.5 Creedmoor available?  Forgive me for my ignorance.

If OAL length is not an issue then Magpul makes 20  round mags.

If OAL length is a concern then AI and some others have 20 round mags.

Magpie makes the PMag 25 M118 LR/SR that accepts OAL up to 2.830. Longer than that will require the AICS mags.

Those are not AI mags which is what I was questioning. Those are KAC/DPMS mags.

DPMS has some steel 20 round mags.
I have five of them to mix it up with my Magpul plastic mags.

The DPMS are good quality and work without any issues.
