decided its time to jump in .
I want an accurate bench gun/squirrel killer/precision plinker, threaded, under $600 or so for the gun, smooth action, etc
everything I am looking for seems to point to a CZ 455 flavor, possibly the tacticool varmint

I guess I'm leaning towards that but is there a better gun out there that fits? I've ruled out the savage FVSR
since it felt so cheap. I also don't want to have to swap out parts (boyds stock) but rather buy the gun and be pretty
much set up from the start.

I'm in the same boat... also leaning toward the cz 455 also read some positive stuff on the 452 American.

I have about 200 rounds through my CZ 455 Tacticool. It is very accurate out of the box with quality ammo, I'm sure it will get more use than any of my rifles when my Rugged Oculus or Thunderbeast 22 Takedown is approved. I am going to put it in a Manners stock eventually, I got a hell of a deal on it from Whittakers when they had a 10% off sale. In the sub $500 price range I don't think you can beat it.

Love my Ruger rimfire, shoots insanely tight groups with cci quiet haven't shot anything else out of it but at 50 yards I have less than a nickel size group with it when I group my 22 ammo by weight.

Thanks all, I’m leaning hard towards the 455 tacticool. Only problem being I can’t find one locally to play with

I have the Ruger American Rimfire it’s a very good shooter out of the box. The stock isn’t for me so I will be ordering a Boyd’s Pro-Varmint.

Found one! I compared the actions again and maybe it’s me but the cz seems like it has to be very deliberate to operate

Those with the savage- does the action smooth out to a reasonable smoothness”??

In that price range, I'd put the 455 (or 452) above anything else as far as looks and accuracy.

Ruger American Rimfire Target

Uses 10/22 mags.  About $400.  Mine shoots under 1 MOA groups with CCI SV.

my only hang up on the cz is the tiny bolt handle.
I'm a bit leery of using the glades armory extended one --seems some have headspace issues

The CZ 455 Tacticool, I have one and can't believe how nice it is. Pretty darn accurate too.

I have two CZ 455s, one is a Tacticool.  Both have been stellar and make putting tiny groups on paper or headshots on ground squirrels a fun adventure

Over half the people at this weekends long range rimfire and PRS matches used CZ 455s and did quite well.

Find some ammo it likes, buy a few spare mags and get out there.

Cz is looking good
I figure I can thread the handle myself if I want a longer knob

Thanks all

I bought an extended bolt handle for the cz455, works fantastic.

Also I have a Ruger American rimfire predator that shoots just as well for about 1/3 the price

Forget the CZ455.   Check out the Vudoo Gunworks V-22.   Scroll up in this forum, there is a Vudoo V-22 thread, and I just posted a test target.

cz is a great rifle but if you have a bit of patience OP, the new Tikka  T1x  rimfire will be on dealer racks soon.  if they inherit the accuracy of the Tikka centerfire  these rifles should be a step above the CZ lineup.  the price is expected to be somewhere around 500.00 USD, also has factory threaded barrel.

Dont count out the Savage FV-SR. It is a great gun for the money. The action gets smoother and smoother as you shoot. After a couple hundred rounds I didnt even notice any stiffness anymore.

You are incorrectly spelling: Remington 541T.

I've been getting the itch also. So which would y'all choose? As a hunting safety instructor I get some good discounts on both, but don't want to buy both.

Mark II FV-SR

Or

Model Number: 8305

Try this, not because it is "tacticool" but because the stock is adjustable.  A well-fitting stock is as important to accuracy as is a good set of sights.

This one looks good to me but it costs more than the $600 mentioned in the OP.

This type of stock is popular because they work.  They are ergonomically correct - they allow the shooter to get nearly perfect fit of the rifle to the shooter in whatever position you choose to shoot from, no matter the dimensions of the shooter's body.  The rifle fits YOU, not the other way around.

It is not because of their mechanical wizardry or visual complexity (but they have that, too).

Marlin xt series are a good value, and they are well within budget. No one complains about marlins not being accurate either.

My Ruger American Rimfire is still a joy to shoot. With my friends who own CZ 455, it holds it own. Knowing it’s accurate & uses 10/22 mags it’s great. I have change the stock to Boyd’s Pro Varment, adding rail on bottom for the Atlas bipod.

Nobody complains because nobody wants to admit to owning a Marlin LOL Just kidding. I used to have an old Marlin that we used for coon hunting. It never let us down

The only thing worse than no adjustment is too much, IMO.

Good pic, I was shooting my on Father's day.. at 50 yds... little ragged holes..

Try lots of different ammo to see what it likes, even if you have to order some... it's worth it... mine love SK Standard and it can be had for $5 a box.

which Athlon is that?
I've been going from Mueller to Athlon to Vortex etc racking my brain trying to decide on glass.

Its the Midas. I got a good deal o n and replaced my Mueller with it..

I wanted to like the Mueller, but the 1/8MOA dot and the 1/8MOA adjustment I was not diggin.

The Glass on the Midas is excellent, I was surprised... and I like the Reticle...

thanks
I"m still doing my homework but
Athlon seems like a solid choice
