42.0 of IMR 4064 pushing a 175 Match King is an "Index Load" -- if your rifle doesn't shoot it well there's something's wrong with your hardware. 44 grains of Varget will push most bullets accurately in a bolt rifle. Stick around 42 to 43 for autoloaders. |

42.5 gr. IMR 4064, 175 SMK , CCI #200 primer, fgmm brass, loaded to 2.800"
This is getting me 2,640 fps out of a 24" 1:11.25 tightbore 5r bartlein barrel with a saami chamber. Zero pressure signs and beautiful 5-shot cloverleafs. I worked this charge up from 41.8gr. IMR 4064. I'm using a forster co-ax press with a whidden full length sizing die and a redding competition seater. GemPro 250 scale. I weigh and sort my brass for +/- 0.2 gr  ocd is a bitch!

Black Hills Match Brass 168gr SMK CCI #200/BR4 I am unsure of velocity but I used this in both a DPMS LR-308 and numerous bolt action rifles (RDP, R700P, etc.) with excellent results. |

Not a long range load but a very accurate for me sub load. I shoot these in my Sig SSG 3000 with an 18"bbl. Right about 3/4" for the groups I have shot so far.
10.0gr Trail Boss 175gr SMK Winchester brass trimmed right at 2.005" Fed 210m primers OAL @ 2.810" I did not have my chronograph when I worked these down so I don't know the FPS yet. |

Loads I used on a Savage 10 with a 1/10 24" barrel.
All with BHA brass/CCI BR primer 168 SMK 45.0 Varget 2.810 175 SMK 44.0 Varget 2.810 178 Hornady BTHP 43.7 Varget 2.830 155 Lapua Scenar 46.7 Varget 2.860 I don't have my chrono data in front of me, but the 175/178 loads ran around 2630fps, and the 155 at 2870. I've since put on a new 26" Shillen barrel, but haven't worked up a load for it. The 178bgthp load is pretty fast at an average 2698fps through the new barrel, but isn't as accurate as I'd like. |

My powder of choice is XBR 8208 and then Varget *for 223 and 308*. I do want to try 4895 though (if i can ever find it).
Rifle is a custom built. POF builders kit. 22" JP enterprise 11.25:1 5R, Geissele HSNM-DMR, Sightron 10-50x60 LRMOA-2. 44.5-44.8 gr Varget, LC match brass, Fed 210, 168gr SMK *** im going back and doing another workup for this powder range. both 5 shot groups got about the same moa (.407 vs .399) 43.2 gr XBR 8208 , LC match brass, Fed 210, 168gr SMK *** need to do a workup with this grain vs 41.8. both gave me a .40 moa, but it was much warmer during the day and i was rushing the shots. I will use this post as a place holder. Did a workup of 168gr A-max, 178 A-max, and 175 smk's with the above 2 powders. just havent had a chance to go shoot it. |

Savage 10 FCP 24" 1:10 factory barrel
Lapua brass, CCI primers 190 grain Sierra Matchkings, 42.3 grains Varget, 2580 fps. Come-ups to 600 & 1K yards, 15.5 & 36.5 minutes respectively. 168 grain Sierra Matchkings, 43.6 grains Varget, 2790 fps. I use these just for practice, shooting 1" dots at 200 yards I seat them right at the rifling lands; little or no jump Solid half-minute loads It should go without saying, but start low and work your way up |

This seems to be the standard load for M1A shooters.

155 Scenar Win Cases CCI primers 47.8 gr Varget (compressed) 2950 fps 24" barrel Caution start low and work up slowly, this load is right at the edge of sanity, although I do get 35 reload cycles on this load in my gun. |

Currently working up a load using imr 4064, 175 smk, lapua brass and fed 210m primers. Right around 42 grain. Seems promising.
Also use 45.4 varget under 168 a-max getting faint ejector marks though. |

Question: Getting back into reloading for my Savage FP-10.
Before I've only used Varget.....now you all are using 4064 & 4895 (I save those for the Garand)....but no mention of using Reloader 15 ? I thought that was the new miracle powder for the .308. I'm confused now. BTW I'll be setting up for 500+ yd accuracy shots. Buddy and I now have access to a 1500yd range on a farm. I'll be maxed out while his .338 Lapua is just stretching its legs. Mods , go ahead and delete if this thread is for recipes only. |

Not much here over the last weeks...
I shoot a 16" AR .308 1 in 10" twist that I want to load for. It shoots the 168g Federal Sierra Match HPBTs less than .5moa... when I do my part anyways. The test target with a group of 4 at the factory was .300 moa with 175g Federal Sierra Match HPBT. I want to try some long range shooting for which I read 175 grain is better because of instability of the 168 grain bullets as they become subsonic. I plan to use my Federal brass and it sounds like many like the CCI primers. Varget also seems to be a favorite so I would like to try that... except it seems harder to find but that's another thread. All that said, generally describes what I have read. Sine my barrel is short I would expect a faster burning powder rather than waste it in flash after the bullet gas left the barrel. My guess is that the boat tail helps keep that from affecting the stability of the bullet since that after burn has to be a higher velocity than the bullet. My question is what powders and primers y'all think would be better for my semi-auto 16" as opposed to what appear to be mostly 24" barrels here. tia |

This has shot 1/2 MOA out of 5 different rifles, including autoloaders. Velocity will vary. It is easy on brass and accurate at 1000. |

I currently use 43.1gr. of Varget for 175gr. SMKs in Hornady Match brass with CCI primers. No pressure signs but start 10% low and work up just for safety. This is by no means a hot load. This load has proven to be great for accuracy with my FN PBR XP.

Redundant to post this but 42.5 grains of IMR 4064 under a 175 HPBT is the most accurate load out of my M700 VS with 1-12" twist. I've worked this load up in Remington, Winchester and Federal brass all with CCI #200 primers and an OAL of 2.800". Out of my 26" barrel my chronograph tells me that I'm averaging 2600 fps. I figured it would be a little higher out of the 26" barrel, but I really don't trust that chronograph.

Any clue about using the 165gr SGK? I ask this because with factory loads, the 168gr FGMM shoots almost identical to the federal with the 165gr SGK. I'm curious if I can run 42.0 gr of 4064 and be right there. I got some 165gr SGK last week and I'm wanting to test them out.

Am using 43.9 gr of varget, lapua brass trimmed to 2.005, OAL 2.800, cci primers and Hornady 178 ELD-X bullets. 2720 fps average of 5 shots using my labradar chronograph. Brass and primers look good. Shooting out of my Savage 10T 308, 5R, 24 inch bull barrel. Does raise the barrel a little.
