I have always used Muzzy 3 blade which worked great but I wanted to try expandable broad heads the first year I tried
Grim reapers which were so so then I switched to Rages 2 blade this year and wow they worked great I shot a Doe and 8 point So those are the two I like one fixed blade and one expandable you cant go wrong with either in my opinion. |

I have used the Rage 100gr 2 blades for my entire bow hunting life. I love them....every deer taken has gone no farther than 40 yards...great blood trails.
I havent had one fail me yet. Although I do see the fixed blade side of the arguement, I havent found fixed blades that run stable with my Z7 past 20yards |

I've used a lot of broadheads over the years. For three seasons ('08-'10), I used Rage 2-blade broadheads. During that time, I killed 9 deer and 2 coyotes with them. But, I only had one pass-through shot out of all 11 animals (a doe)!
This year, I switched to Slick Tricks, and am 4 for 4 on having the broadheads penetrate both sides.

I used rage last year with two shots and neither one a pass thru.
Switched to montec s this year. So far I'm three for three on pass thru s this year. (also switched to full metal jacket arrows which are heavier for more kinetic energy) |

That entire broadhead test that was linked was done in one weekend. He's even designed a broadhead, the Red Feather Archery RazorHawk, a single-bevel 2-blade broadhead that is tough as nails. It sits in my quiver waiting for a chance to punch a couple holes in a deer. At 30yds, it is only 1.5" off of my field points –– and I haven't even broadhead tuned yet. He's been quite helpful getting me squared away and ready to go hunting this year. He's younger than I am (he's in his mid 20's I think), and he's probably already forgotten more about archery than I have had a chance to learn. |

6 for 6 pass thrus with montec s this year. And you can resharpen em in 5 min and kill again.

Slick Trick Magnums... By far sharpest broadhead I have seen out of the package and absolutely rock solid. I have killed many deer with them...

I'm trying the Rage 2-blades this year. I practiced with the practice head and they seemed to shoot the same as field tips.
I made a miracle shot two or three years ago with a Muzzy 3 blade. The buck was about 60 yards away. I guessed hold over and got a complete pass through both lungs. He dropped about 10 feet from where he got hit. Muzzy will always be my fall-back, I just wanted to try something new. |

Slick tricks for fixed blade that flies like a field point. NAP killzone that flies like a field tip. Superior to the Rage in that the blades do not deploy unless they are going through an animal and are not dependent on rubber rings to keep the blades in place.

For me, the best fixed blade is the Stryker. I only shoot a 55 lb bow with 26" draw and I get pass throughs easily. I've never been as impressed with other broad heads.

Love my Rage 3 blade broad heads. Awesome blood trail and the exit wound looks like a cannon hit the deer.

Spitfire maxx for me. I've shot most of the other popular stuff and haven't been impressed. I'll stick with spitfires.

I've had complete pass through a on every whitetail I've shot (about 30 of them now), a full pass through on an aoudad, and on the 800+lb nilgai the broad head penetrated but the shaft did not exit completely. For those of you who don't know, nilgai are known for being extremely tough. And they are. I hit one with a 300 WSM and he still ran over 200 yards before collapsing. The spitfire maxx put him down in about 60 yards. I've had them punch through shoulder blades and still pass through. I've tried most of the big names, and I'll never stray from a Mathews bow, or a spitfire maxx again. And it's not because they sponsor me or anything. |
