I have a swing door about 50 inch wide that I framed from pipe. It is screwed to a small tree via lag bolts. I also can attach it to a sign post if need be.

I'm not currently running my trap correctly. Normally I would tie my gate open and allow the hogs to come and go as they please while baiting EVERY day and then I would decide when to set the trigger. My current schedule keeps me away 4-5 days in a row so I set it and have a neighbor drive by it one day a week just to see if it is thrown.

I used a counter weight of whatever old iron I have around the shop and ran 550 cord from the top corner of the gate to a pulley I tied onto a limb on a nearby tree about 15 ft up and let the weight hang. I was originally using a stick to hold the gate open as part of my trigger but I had a trap smart sow see it and I lost that sounder before I could catch them. That resulted in about 2 weeks of hunting, way too much coffee, and a lot of luck to pop her and 4 of 5 piglets.

Now I currently have some really stiff wire bent in a way that hooks the panel in the gate. The wire is from a guide wire on a light pole. I use a small gauge wire, think cheap electric fence wire, and run it along a few pulleys tied to my t posts and then across the rear of the trap for a trip wire.

For bait I have been using corn that I soak for about a week. I've been soaking it in water from a mud hole created by recent loggers so there is prolly some good oily residue in it. There is also a pig pipe buried in the trap full of corn. Keeps the coins from digging it up.

If you want pics I'll send ya some but it's nothing fancy. It's simple and works. I have caught 36 now in 12 days and it could be more if I ran the trap properly.

ETA...my not running the trap properly is why I only caught 6 more piglets this weekend and not any sows or possibly more piglets. But it gives me a reason to blow the dust off of my thermal!

It sounded like you had some sort of continuous trapping mechanism.  Where the door would keep letting them in but not allow them to leave. I had to read it a few times when you said you were leaving the little ones in to see if mom came back.  It would be a cool trap if someone could come up with a design like that.

thanks. I'm in south-central OK near Lindsay, I just wonder how dense our hog population is compared to other areas of the state sometimes. Seems like you have a pretty healthy population there. Regards.

Well finally caught the trap shy sows in an open field. They just thought they were safe in the tall grass. As young as they are I bet they have been caught before.
Oh well the little orphaned piglets should give the coyotes some fun squeak toy's.

I'm slowly chipping away at the pig's. Now I'm going to have to take the thermal and start pushing them out of the bottoms where I don't have cell phone signal.
