I agree with all of the above, going to RSA in April and I just finished, Frederick Seous, A Hunter's Wanderings in Africa: Being a Narrative of Nine Years Spent Amongst the Game of the Far Interior of South Africa.  I think its pretty dry and scientific in parts but I enjoyed it.  It was interesting that in that time (late 1800's) there were already areas where game had formerly been but was no longer found.

Edit to add: I'd lend it to you if you'd like, I'm leaving it with Dad at Christmas and you can pick it up when he's done.

It may be a reference book in your public library.
Traces the history of the development of safaris.
