Just curios.  I can imagine a bunch of decent arguement said for a lot of different rigs.  I am probably done with hog hunting till the fall unless they piss me off, so thought I might try to weed the coyote population.  I don't have a favorite yet, but might start with a PreditAR-it just sounds like a good coyote rifle-and a lot lighter than my first AR, a Rock River Varmit rifle.

We call them at night with FoxPros and occasionally hand calls using thermal spotters and scopes.

Frequently a lot of walking.

I've been using my 11.5" 6.8 hog SBR with an YHM ULT shooting Barnes 85gr RRLPs with ok effect. My son or a bud has been using my 10.5" 5.56 with an Omega shooting 50gr VMaxes, which work better, imo.

I just bought a lighter 11.5" 5.56 upper for coyotes and will use my other Omega direct thread on it. Even with the suppressor it's shorter and lighter than a 16" carbine.

Lighter and shorter is better at night. Most of our shots are inside 150, some much closer.

I've used a Remington R15 for many years.  Before that, it was all bolt-action rifles.  It is light, accurate and I can kill anything within 250 yards with no issues (not on the run).

My favorite so far was my stainless Savage .17HMR with laminated stock.  I hope that changes since I just finished a 5.56 build with Faxon Flame fluted barrel and hiperfire 24C trigger.  Just still debating on which 1-6X that I should place, on it.

12 Gauge

Seriously, I kill a lot of coyotes, and shoot most of them with a shotgun.

I carry both a rifle and a shotgun to every stand, and shoot 75% with the scattergun.

That said I used two rifles last year, a CZ 527 in .223, and a Armalite M4gery. I liked the CZ better.

What 12 gauge? I just found out that my favorite new offroading area in California allows coyote hunting with shotguns only, thought I'd give it a try.

Either an 16 inch AR in 5.56 or a 16 in 6.8 spc, depends on how long I think the shots are going to be.

My favorite is an AR15 I put together in 22 Hellcat. It's pushes a 40gr Ballistic tip 4320fps. Ive found that I want the longest MPBR I can get for calling at night with thermals. When I hunt with @JPK he takes the close ones and I take the long ones. I will say, he has more spring in his step at the end of the night than I do. Even with the 22" barrel not being too heavy of a contour(SPR), with the Socom can, scope, clip on, mag, etc, it all adds up!

Not really a dedicated coyote hunter but have killed them when purist of other game.  SxS 12 ga with #4 turkey loads and 5.56mm out of my M16A4 clone while in ND prairie dog hunting.  Times I've gone out specifically for yotes, never successful.

Killed the most with a model 700 in 22-250.  Also use a 20in 223 AR and a 16in 6.8 AR.  Just got a savage 243 that I'll prob ring in this season.

I still kill a lot with a shotgun in the day time, but have gone to night hunting almost exclusively. My new favorite is my Noveske Rogue hunter with a Saker can and Pulsar thermal scope. Thermal is a game changer for coyote hunting.

My favorite rifle for coyote is whatever one I happen to have handy when I see one of the damn things! Generally it's a .30 caliber of some sort and I'm not concerned about saving their hides.

Out deer hunting a few years back I ran into this guy, had one of my .30-06's with me.

This was back when I had time to go out calling them. Called him in to about 35 yards before I decided to shoot before he realized I was there and took off.

I've been hauling this one out lately.  SBR with Noveske barrel, Griffin M4SD can, and Pulsar thermal.  Can't forget the ginormous shoulder pad I made for it.

What do ya'll think of a 28ga with #2 buck?

My neighbor uses that, he drops plenty of them with it, but it seems... peculiar.

Seems easier to just use a typical rifle or 12/20. That 28ga buck cannot be cheap.

Does he reload?  Don't think I've ever seen buckshot available in 28 ga.  I reloaded 12 ga with .311 and .375 round balls and .410 with .375 round balls.  Shotshell doesn't care if its a 3/4 oz of #6 or #2 Buck.

I'll have to ask him. Don't really know the guy. Just started talking to him.

Never spoke much because I never saw him. Likely because he's always out fishing or hunting/trapping.

Ruger AR556 w/ Leupold VX-R 2-7x33 for brushy/shorter range spots, Hornady 55gr American Gunner hollow points
Tikka T3 Lite w/ Leupold VX-R 4-12x50 for places when a longer shot is most likely, Sierra 65 gr SBT Gameking
Used to use a Mossberg 835 quite a bit until I got busted up in an accident, can't handle the recoil anymore
