7X57 for Deer. I've taken a bunch of them with that caliber using my trusty 1930's VZ24 based rifle.

Started with .270 Win. Now at .270 WSM. Will kill any big game in AZ. Have .243 Win. for the girls. Friend soured me on 30-06 when we were teenagers. Swore I'd never have that caliber.

I use a .308 in a Browning A bolt.  Nice Leupold Vx3 on it.  Light and very accurate with anything I’ve fed it.  It’s a lazer with handloads.

I had a 270 in a Winchester Featherweight.  Sold it to a buddy but I miss it.  That was one sexy beast.

I think I’ll get another!   Maybe a short action this time.  This place is costing me money....

Dropped a doe DRT with a 6.5 creedmoor at about 80 yards after that and the minimal meat damage im sold on it as a hunting round

Thank you.  I currently don't own a 30-06, but have several 308Win.  I've owned a few dozen 06 over the past three and half decades, but currently without one.  I keep looking at Winchester 70 Extreme Weather but am not sure.

Pretty much the same, although I do like to pull out the .22-250 for varmint hunting sometimes.

I've never had a 22-250, but like the cartridge on paper.  A co-worker has just about shot-out his Remington 700 on prairie dog hunts.  He says the round is "devastating" on them.

Great little carbine. My all time favorite deer cartridge has to be the .270 Win, although I've got a M7 in .260 rem that's going on me.

A guy that I hunt with uses one of those in a Remington 700 ADL. Seems to work for him. Although the kick is a little bit harder than you would expect. It’s not bad at all though. It feels to me to be just a little less than a 308

.30-'06
I only own 2 modern bolt actions and they're both .30-'06.

Since this is the hunting section I assume the question is "your favorite cartridge (for killing game)".
Generally for killing stuff around the ranch I reach for .22LR, .410 shotgun and .30-'06 for the big stuff.

30 Remington AR.

Still pound for pound most powerful SAAMI spec cartridge beyond 100 yards chambered in the AR15 platform.

....even though its unobtainium nowdays.

My all time favorite is the 300 Win Mag. I still use the Remington 700 I got in 1986 with my mink trapping money. I shot 2 with it last year.

My next favorite is a 270 Win in a Sako I won in a shooting contest. It's by far the most accurate hunting rifle I've ever shot.

I have a lot of favorites and ones im fond of

.357 in a Smith 4" L frame for target and a lighter hunting companion

.44 Mag in a 5" Smith N frame for plinking and big game hunting companion and a Marlin Pre Safety 1894 for a toy and handy little package

.30-40 Krag cause its fun to handload and shoot in my fathers Krag he did a nice sporterization and restoration on back in his 20's

7mm Rem Mag for any kind of distance hunting

.45-70 Marlin SBL for giggles and shoulder abuse

.223 Rem is probably my all time favorite and i own more than i can count because of its versatility and effectiveness on small game and varmints. Cost is also minimal

.30-06 as its what i took my first deer with and i own a handful. Thinking on reaming one or two to AI to play with that

.280 Rem for its versatility loaded with 140 gr Nosler BT's

currently having a precision rifle in 6.5x47 built as well as a 6mm Creedmoor coyote rifle

Have a 9.3x62 on the way to the FFL so that will scratch the itch for a big boomer

I got into AR based wildcats for a while and did:

25-223AR (x2)
6mm Mongoose
25x6.8
6mmx6.8
358 Yeti

And while all are cool and fun, my 12.5” 6.8 II with my handloads has just become my go to hunting rifle. Any deer from 300 yards and in is dead, and even being out west, my furthest shot ever in game was only 250 yards. All my rifles have dedicated suppressors, so the little 6.8 is just handy and practical.

With that said the 358 was a lot of fun, but I sold it just because I really had no use for it. My 308 AR builds ended up the same weight as the Yeti so it really didn’t serve a purpose other than shits and giggles, but I got tired of making the brass.

I also have a lot of respect for the good ole 308 and 30-06. With modern bullet choices, these two really are practical and versatile, but for me they are relegated to only elk. The 6.8 does everything else.

I like hog and coyote hunting with my 223 and an old 30-30 bolt action for Texas white tail.

I am looking to get into a 7mm-08 for my next "hunting" rifle.

Nothing wrong with those calibers, lots of people in my area use both, specially 8mm because of all the WWII bring back Mausers and Mausers available at the local hardware store after WWII.

Only reason I'm seeing less and less of the 8mm rifles each year during deer season is because the younger kids are swapping them out for lighter & more fancy new calibers.

One of my grail rifles is an older Ruger M77 RSI in .243. I'm still kicking myself for not grabbing one when they were not Crack-Priced (I do have one in 7X57).

Pretty much for me as well except I varmint with .222 Remington. I have other choices but these are my preferences. It’s not metallic but I’d throw in a 12 ga too just to cover everything.
