Yep.  We missed the rut this year, so it was work to get into a shot; most days we were sitting in water. The only other shot I had in 8 days was a hind that woulda run maybe 25lbs--Kinda regret passing that shot...  So damn tasty.  The one I shot was 47lbs dressed; a big one is 100lbs.

I've shot beavers and even raccoons that weighed more than the average Sika...but I hear the little things are amazing on the plate!!!!

Enjoy.

Whole lot easier packing back to the car than a nice IA whitetail.
If they taste that good I'm pretty sure I need to eat one.

Save her jaw bone, and show us her teeth.

I look at a lot of deer in the woods....that gray on her face is telling....maybe 5-6? Seeing her on the hoof next to other deer would help....was she sway backed and pot bellied?

I got her this afternoon. She came in and was about 10 yards out. The entrance went in on top of her shoulder and into her left lung.

Can anyone give me a rough age? I couldn’t help but notice all the wear on the fur around her mouth. She also had some worn places on her side that made me think she had gotten some road rash or something.

I had already taken her to the processor before this was posted, sorry. Her front teeth looked to be in decent shape and the front lower teeth weren’t worn down like I would’ve expected.

I can’t say she was sway backed but she was definitely pot bellied. She definitely looked like she was older than the other doe she was with.

Archery on a pocket of state land about 5 miles away.  He came in after 4 does in fading light and I shot at 7yds leaned way out the left side of the tree.  wouldn't have had a shot if I wasn't in a tree saddle.

High lung shot into the other side.  He ran like a sob, so I climbed down and headed home.  Found him this morning in 30 min and was blown away because I was expecting a six, not a heavy 8.

What kind of shape was the meat in after the overnight? I've never come back the next morning to look, and found the deer so I'm curious.

30ish yds.  Land owner bumped him and a doe as he was on his utv.  She laid down about 70yds out.  He worked a tree and hit a scrape.  Watched him for 20 mins at 30yds.  Then he turned, lights out.

It has been a rough hunting season so far. During Bow season shot at the same doe twice and missed, the first time because she dropped when she heard the string release and I failed to compensate for that. The second time I literally watched my arrow curve to the right. Still have no idea how that happened. Muzzle loader season was a complete bust. Gun season started so I brought out my ST300P Mk 1. 300blk, 200gr Maker subsonic bullet. with 11gr A1680 powder.

I took her last night. She was not big. That is the problem with shooting with 2 minutes till last light, she looked much bigger in my scope.

First hunt in SC, first deer in SC, first buck ever for me. 10th season hunting, I've shot a bunch of doe, and let some decent shooter bucks walk waiting on a trophy...

0720 in the morning, looking over a cotton field that will be harvested this week, I could not think of anything prettier to hunt over.

Shot at 30 yards or so, ran 20 yards and died fast. Shot was further back than I am ok with, definitely disappointed in myself on that. But he died quick, and I will be better next time.

Very nice... what county were you in?  It is beautiful out there between defoliation and harvest.  Shot this one right outside of Cameron, SC.  Nothing wrong with that shot placement... I’ll shoot a few inches back of the shoulder to avoid blowing it out.  They will drop pretty quick as long as you don’t go too far back and miss the lungs.

My pops got this one Saturday. Won't score super high, but one of those unique, once in a life time type racks.

10pts (maybe 11) on the right side, and you can put the whole pad of your thumb flat in that palmation.

I'd be happy with him. Saw one a couple years ago I really wanted. Left side was a perfect 5. Right main beam was about the same length and curve, but NO points, just a long, sweeping beam.

Filled my Minnesota regular firearms tag.  Took this young buck with my muzzleloader on Sunday morning.  Wind was gusting over 25 mph, temp was nearly 60 degrees at shooting time, and this guy came from a mile down wind.
Bang-flop shot at 65 yards.  CVA 50 cal, 270 gr powerbelt aerolite over 100 gr of buckhorn.

300 WM, at about 280 yards. I’ve been meaning to use lighter rounds for whitetail to cut down on meat damage, I just like that particular rifle a lot. Took both lungs and the heart, and didn’t let a drop of blood past the diaphragm. Everything above was slurry.

Yeah. That elk round killed him just fine. Damn.

I used to shoot SC deer with a 270WSM.  It craters them also. Tissue goes out and everywhere.

My Grendel kills deer just fine but not violently.

Went out this morning with my 6.8. Four rounds in the magazine, 3 115 gr federal fusion and one random Hornady sst at the bottom of the mag.

At about 7, a big doe and a yearling doe came out. I got a good sight on the big doe, squeezed the trigger and...click.

With two deer now watching me from 30 yds out, I slowly dropped the magazine and opened the bolt, nothing came out. Oh crap, I must have forgotten to chamber a round. I carefully slid one round off the top of the magazine and tried to feed it into the chamber. Nope, turns out I did chamber a round. Close the bolt silently, forward assist, open it again and the round falls out of the chamber. They hear it and walk off, not really spooked but nervous.

Ok, so much for that. I chambered the next round in the mag and sit for another couple minutes. Here they come back to where they were feeding. Now there's four of them, big doe, two yearling does and a button buck. I draw down on momma doe again and...click.

FUCK! Ok clearly this isn't working. The does heard the click and are alert but still not totally spooked. Button buck is oblivious. Again, I carefully open the bolt, cartridge falls on the ground. Now the does are walking off again. I drop the magazine, shuck the last federal fusion off and slide the Hornady out of the mag. Button buck is still oblivious. I drop the Hornady into the chamber and close the bolt. Screw it, I'll take the button buck. I draw down on his shoulder and...click.

Now he starts walking off. I stood up, opened the bolt just enough to cock the hammer. He's behind a tree now, I have to wait for him to come out. He does, I get a sight picture and...BANG! FINALLY! WHAT THE EVER LOVING FUCK! He jumps, mule kicks and lights out through the woods.

It took me about 1/2 hr to find him.

The dog was no help. Less than a year old. He was so excited he couldn't figure out we wanted him to track the deer. Oh well.

Hornady sst made a mess of the ribs and shoulder though.

Got this does, good size one about 7am this morning.  About 45 yards into the woods, headshot through the ear.  Sat in the stand a while, really would like a nice buck.  Finally saw one about 200 yards out in the pasture, but was not a safe shot as the property owner's house and driveway were potentially in the line of fire.  Angle of the bullet would have hit pasture, but not taking chances.  Will be out next Friday, Sat, Mon, and Tues.  Hopefully then.

I butcher and process my own.  I have never seen a deer with this much fat on it.  Couldn't believe it.  Was peeling up to one inch slabs of it off her sides and back.

Awesome. I missed out on one at 5 yards last week. Walking up the driveway to a pond, heard a noise, turned and saw brown/yellow fur. By the time I realized it wasn't a deer it was into thick enough cover that steel birdshot was useless.
