Quoted: Yep. We missed the rut this year, so it was work to get into a shot; most days we were sitting in water. The only other shot I had in 8 days was a hind that woulda run maybe 25lbs--Kinda regret passing that shot... So damn tasty. The one I shot was 47lbs dressed; a big one is 100lbs. Whole lot easier packing back to the car than a nice IA whitetail. If they taste that good I'm pretty sure I need to eat one. |

Quoted: Save her jaw bone, and show us her teeth. I look at a lot of deer in the woods....that gray on her face is telling....maybe 5-6? Seeing her on the hoof next to other deer would help....was she sway backed and pot bellied? View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: https://i.imgur.com/dHvU89G.jpg https://i.imgur.com/kJGzGCY.jpg https://i.imgur.com/6tj0gCO.jpg I got her this afternoon. She came in and was about 10 yards out. The entrance went in on top of her shoulder and into her left lung. Can anyone give me a rough age? I couldn’t help but notice all the wear on the fur around her mouth. She also had some worn places on her side that made me think she had gotten some road rash or something. Save her jaw bone, and show us her teeth. I look at a lot of deer in the woods....that gray on her face is telling....maybe 5-6? Seeing her on the hoof next to other deer would help....was she sway backed and pot bellied? I had already taken her to the processor before this was posted, sorry. Her front teeth looked to be in decent shape and the front lower teeth weren’t worn down like I would’ve expected. I can’t say she was sway backed but she was definitely pot bellied. She definitely looked like she was older than the other doe she was with. |

Archery on a pocket of state land about 5 miles away. He came in after 4 does in fading light and I shot at 7yds leaned way out the left side of the tree. wouldn't have had a shot if I wasn't in a tree saddle. High lung shot into the other side. He ran like a sob, so I climbed down and headed home. Found him this morning in 30 min and was blown away because I was expecting a six, not a heavy 8. |

30ish yds. Land owner bumped him and a doe as he was on his utv. She laid down about 70yds out. He worked a tree and hit a scrape. Watched him for 20 mins at 30yds. Then he turned, lights out.

Quoted: First hunt in SC, first deer in SC, first buck ever for me. 10th season hunting, I've shot a bunch of doe, and let some decent shooter bucks walk waiting on a trophy... 0720 in the morning, looking over a cotton field that will be harvested this week, I could not think of anything prettier to hunt over. Shot at 30 yards or so, ran 20 yards and died fast. Shot was further back than I am ok with, definitely disappointed in myself on that. I had a baby right in the middle of bow season so never got another chance at them with the recurve. Gun season starts Saturday, I'll probably head over to the spot and try to take an eater doe. We could use some meat here.

300 WM, at about 280 yards. I’ve been meaning to use lighter rounds for whitetail to cut down on meat damage, I just like that particular rifle a lot. Took both lungs and the heart, and didn’t let a drop of blood past the diaphragm. Everything above was slurry. |

Got this does, good size one about 7am this morning. About 45 yards into the woods, headshot through the ear. Sat in the stand a while, really would like a nice buck. Finally saw one about 200 yards out in the pasture, but was not a safe shot as the property owner's house and driveway were potentially in the line of fire. Angle of the bullet would have hit pasture, but not taking chances. Will be out next Friday, Sat, Mon, and Tues. Hopefully then.
I butcher and process my own. I have never seen a deer with this much fat on it. Couldn't believe it. Was peeling up to one inch slabs of it off her sides and back. Attached File |

First non-firearm or muzzleloader deer since giving up on my shoulder and getting my crossbow permit. This eight pointer came in chasing a doe with about a half hour of hunting left. Still got a NH rifle tag and MA opens after Thanksgiving.

I missed out on one at 5 yards last week. Walking up the driveway to a pond, heard a noise, turned and saw brown/yellow fur. By the time I realized it wasn't a deer it was into thick enough cover that steel birdshot was useless. |
