A large number of gun owners know very little about shooting or guns.

A huge number of hunters are not gun people.  They can’t explain what sight picture even looks like or why bullets do what they do.  They can’t zero because they don’t understand basic marksmanship and they don’t care as losing an animal allows them to stay lazy and not drag it out.  

Plus trespassing...poachers...  Had a guy “lease” a stand on .3 acres between two private land clubs...literally a turnrow.  He would shoot 20-30 rounds a day at anything brown...even shooting at deer across a field more than a mile away.  He never attempted follow up...drove to his stand...drove home...guy was nuts.  Had to be chased out by the police.
