15 minutes before the season ended, this guy walked in front of me about 80 yards away.  Sierra 65 grain Gameking, lungs looked like they were in a blender.

Popped this dude in the hill country over the weekend. Goofy looking wide 7 pt.

He’s younger but the rancher told us to focus on anything with uneven horns and my dad was ready to hunt hogs sooooooo.

I like it!   I have a little fork-horn that has been taunting me...seen him every morning and evening hunt so far.   I've had my scope on him a number of times to practice slowly getting the gun up and in position.  That reminds me of exactly what I've been seeing through my DMS-1!

As best I can remember my first deer hunting trip with a firearm was 1978. I carried a shotgun (because that is all I had as a youngster). I never harvested a deer with that shotgun and moved on to have success with a bow, rifle, pistol, and flintlock muzzleloader through the coming years. Yesterday, 40 years later using my 3 Gun competition scattergun, I filled that shotgun tag. Next I'll try a crossbow to complete a Kentucky legal method “grand slam”.

Great day for me! First time out with the rifle this year.  The afternoon started with me getting rear-ended on my way to hunt, just a simple bumper tap that hit my hitch hauler with no damage.  Got in the stand around 230, and took the 9pt at 4:00, and the little one at 4:05.  Ruger Hawkeye lightweight 308 at just 20yd inside the field, Federal Fusion 180grn.  Both dropped just at the tree line on the right.

My first buck and only 2nd deer taken in my three years hunting now.  He got spooked by a pusher out the side of a brush patch just about 20 yards ahead of me, so an easy shot.

First ever whitetail and first time hunting. Nice doe, ran out in front of my hunting partner and I while we were walking back to the house after 2 1/2 hours in the stand. Shot her in the head, DRT. Rifle was a Marlin 336 in 30-30. Very excited to get a kill on my first trip. Lots of meat in the freezer.

Shot gray ghost  (6 year old) on veterans day November 11th 4:25 PM
6 year old in Minnesota is rare as hens teeth with Timber wolf population a plenty.
He threw me for a big curve.
I have never encountered a mature buck moving this calm into a west wind.
Ran into his offspring opener evening but could not see the M1 front sight. Junior is much bigger than pops.

Didn't have a scale at camp. Speculate close to 200 lbs from the handling.

Not sure who is grayer? Couple old timers for sure.

Nice!

Barrel length?
Load?
Distance to deer?
Bullet path through the deer?
Exit wound?
How far did the deer go after the shot?

had may last hunting trip of the season last weekend and it was a good one.  all 4 of my buddies on the lease and I all got the bucks we were after on the first hunt we were out there, so we got to just enjoy the ranch for the last 2 days.  Weather was cold (for Texas) so we were able to let our deer hang for a couple days after gutting and skinning them which isn't something you can do that often in Texas.

Yesterday my buddy and I processed the deer we shot.   I now have (4) deer in my freezer and am good to go for the year - hamburger meat, chili meat, smoked sausage, breakfast sausage, backstrap steaks and roasts for days!

I was after this older 8 point.  His rack isn't that great but he has a big body and he was old.   Cut out his jaw and he is over 7 years old after we compared it to the charts, Im happy with it.

Muzzleloader Muley doe. 385 grain Hornady Great Plains bullets at 100 yards.

This is actually my first deer ever. I didn’t grow up in a hunting family, but learning to hunt has always been a dream of mine.

After several close encounters and several passes on smaller deer, I was finally able to make it happen.

My wife and I field dressed and quartered it together, then packed it about 3,000 feet in elevation down the mountain.

When we got home, we butchered and processed everything ourselves.

Got this guy during near the end of the Ohio gun season.  Used my .50 Beowulf I just finished building. He has the most mass of any buck I have ever killed.  He was aged at 7 or 8 years old.

While cutting him up,  I found a broadhead and length of arrow buried in his loin.   It looks like it had been there several years, as everything had healed up perfectly with no scarring anywhere.

Unbelievable! Can't imagine enduring that broadhead running adjacent to your spine and rib cage.
Had to have been helluva surprise to find when processing.
What is the length on the arrow plus broadhead? Looks like 4 to 5 inches?
Nice thick rack on that old boy.

Update on the first buck in the OP. This is him this year. He was a 6pt last year. He’s an 8pt this year. This is the most recent pic I have of him.

ETA:
I’m almost positive the buck that’s eating in this pic is the one in the 2nd pic of the OP.
