We have a lease up in the hills and have no standing water, no streams, no tanks, nothing.

Considering putting a 200 gal water trough/ tank out so the deer will stop for water.

Any considerations that need to be made?   Are size /shape /materials important?

I have 3 of these 140 gallon stock tanks spread out on my 160 acre.  I have no year round standing water for for quite a ways in any direction.  The deer and turkeys love these.  I may install one more.  They need to be cleaned out with a rake twice a year.  Water is stirred up here as I just raked it out and added 40 gallons of water.  The plastic jugs kitty litter comes in hold about 2.5 gallons and work well for getting water to the site.

It is a good idea.  The rubbermaid ones are pretty good.  I used to use the 50 gallon ones so I could easily tip the over to clean them.

We have multiple stock tanks and a couple of creeks, so any additional water is futile. However, when I hunted in south Texas we have a few water troughs set up. The deer hammered those locations continuously.
