Dad and I went out for the weekend and came home alright. Could have poked a lot of does, but just felt lazy after I had my buck.

My first with a muzzle loader kill

Dad used my brother's H&R since he decided last minute to go.

There really aren't many. Most of the good ones are on my section it seems because I don't kill bucks under 3.5 years old like most everyone else around here. Most of the deer I let walk just go off to get shot.

Here's the one I shot last year. I misjudged him a little but still one of the nicest I've seen in person on the ranch.

Put some more meat in the freezer tonight.

My first big CT deer

Regular rifle season was a bust.  MO now has antlerless going on.  I got this doe today.  It doesn't look big in the picture, but it is biggest doe I have shot and was a big one.

The deer changed up their trail from the previous weekend walking a different route and finally saw them going up through a more heavily wooded area.  They were quite difficult to make out.  I whistled and got this one to stop.  I shot and did not hit her and she just stared at me.  I was able to make her out better and got a heart-lung shot and she was DRT.  As I was going to get her, I saw more doe, but they were on a ridge with blue sky behind them, so no safe shot.  I had had another doe earlier in my sights and ready to shoot when she got spooked and bolted just before I shot.

Nice buck and nice rifle. Are there many people hunting with modern sporting rifles there? How have the new stupid laws / public oppenions over there affected what people decide to carry in the woods or buy for hunting?

Got this 8pt on 11/27 from my tree stand. I had spotted him crossing the road when I was driving to work that morning.  I thought about that buck all day while at work and left early to come home and hunt him.  It was raining, snowing, windy and cold all day. It was also my wife's bday but the deer seemed to be moving and she understood.  I got to harvest the biggest buck I've ever seen while hunting.

Taken on with a Remington 870 (12ga slug).

Our kill numbers are down this year from previous years (10 this year - 23 last year) on the farm. The warm opening day combined with monsoon on Sunday didn't help any. But the second and third weekend(s) with the wind and snow combined to make for a great hunt.

Shot this management 5 point the evening of 11/30. Nubs for brow tines on a 2.5 yr old don't make the cut. 21 yard pass through with my bow. Piled up 150 yards into the thicket he came out of.

I cannot believe how thoughtful you are!  Going out in the woods to get such a special buck, on her birthday, and then, hopefully, getting it mounted for her.  What a great present.  Good work!

Everybody I know hunts with bolt or semi hunting rifles. The laws I'm sure have only further pushed people away from using MSRs. Plus you can't have "large capacity magazines" off your property nowadays except for certain circumstances. And you need permission to have an assault rifle on somebody else's property too.

If I remember correctly, they had a limitation for how many rounds you could hunt with in a rifle or shotgun on private land too but I think it got lifted. Either way, I'm extremely happy with my BAR for deer.

I shot this guy opening weekend. I was out Wednesday through Friday. I heard him Friday morning behind me scraping and grunting a little bit. I grunted back at him and he grunted again. I grunted once more and didn't hear anything else. I took Saturday off. Sunday morning I went back out and was in the tree before dawn. I heard him behind me again, scraping and then he let out a long grunt, 5-6 seconds. I grunted back at him and he responded louder and more aggressive. I grunted back and he replied with a loud snort weeze, he was angry.

He came out of the woods to my right about 50 yards away and never stopped moving until he was behind cover. Kept his nose on the ground the whole time, sniffing for the two does that had been in that area and me. Finally at the 11 o'clock position he turned broadside and gave me a shot. He ran about 40 yards and laid down to die. Only 4 points on him, but he dressed out at 156 lbs. Long body and long legs on him. Got my freezer stocked and meat for the winter.

My first deer with a muzzleloader.  I missed Indiana's firearm season due to being in AFG.  This buck bedded down about 75 yds. from my blind for an hour before he walked into a position where he presented a clear shot at 60 yds.  DRT with a saboted .44 cal Hornady 240 gr. XTP driven by 90 gr. of Blackhorn 209 powder.  Weapon is a TC Impact with Nikon Prostaff 3x9x40 scope.

I went back home to Texas last week to do some hog hunting with my little brother and he still had a buck tag left. On our next to last day he got this 10 pointer, his first big buck. Not as big as some, but still his first. Only scored a 94 on B&C, but it's all good. I didn't get any hogs, but I was glad to be there for his kill.

Decided to use milsurp this year but didn't get scope set ups worked out for my Springfield 1903 and M1 Garrand in time.  So opted for the Mosin & SKS.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-vbvIErhauUc/Urb3xnkmsGI/AAAAAAAAARg/e11H7QHWAwI/s219-p/5++pt.jpg
Popped the buck at about 70 yards with the Mosin using Bulgarian Light Ball - obviously not a pencil hole exit wound - very similar results to buck ai shot last year with Rem 7mm Mag.  Shot placement and adequate penetration = clean kill.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-VwtFA0kpNwM/Urb3sbMEzbI/AAAAAAAAARY/I91zcughoF4/s219-p/DSCF1012.JPG
Shot the doe at 140 yards using Tula SP - Scope is a $20 fixed 4x32 and hit exactly where I was aiming.  High shoulder shot shattered the spine dropping her instantly.

This was my first year hunting with a blackpowder weapon in PA's late flintlock season. I bought this TC Hawken this summer, I went traditional all the way, shooting a patched round ball over 75 grains of FFFg.

I was stillhunting/spot-and-stalk hunting in the fresh snow on New Year's Eve, the deer were all bedded and I had a very successful afternoon, I saw lots of deer. She was about 60 yards away, facing me, I put the round ball right in the center of the brisket and destroyed her heart. She only went 20 yards. She's the biggest doe I've seen in a long time. 138 lbs dressed, estimated 174 lbs live weight.

I'm hooked now!

2013-2014 deer season officially closed for us now. Both my son and I tagged out with 2 deer each (3 archery kills and one flintlock), the freezer is full!

was the second weekend of whitetail in south texas and I had just returned from a TDY. my family ranch is about 50 minutes from the doorstep of my house, and of course that morning I overslept. I run out and crank up the ole cummins and begin my trip to the ranch. the whole way I was doing nothing but kicking myself in the ass for being late as the sun had been up for about 45 minutes buy the time I left the house. I finally made my way to the ranch, walked down to the stand with my trusty .270 in tow. I get settled in and look and my watch 0856. I figured I would sit in the stand all day in hopes to catch a mid day straggler. I lean back in my seat, take a drink of my coffee and light up a cigarette. by the time I was done with my smoke and a coffee I had four does under the feeder. I was debating on which one to shoot as I wanted the biggest one of the group. as I began to reach for my rifle, all four does go into full alert and are snorting, figuring I had been scented. I quickly brought up and steadied my shot. as I slowly started to squeeze the trigger, they bolted. once again im livid. as I raise my head above my scope and look to the left about 30 yards into the clearing, I see why the does had been spooked and pushed off. needless to say, I didn't let him take a step more and dropped him in his tracks. 8 -point with a start of a drop tine on his right main beam
