Conditions not so hot at my QTH tonight. I have about 30% copy on net control. I can hear a couple other stations for barely ghost copy. I don't seem to have as much atmospheric noise as usual, but can't copy much on either antenna. I guess this is just not my week.

Before the handoff I had seven stations. FWIW, post hand-off I had 100% copy on everyone except eastcoastff, who I think brings the station count to 8. Hopefully conditions are better next week an everyone can hear me. It might be time to start checking 20M as well. |

I know not everyone could hear everyone else, but 20M was working pretty darn well tonight.
8 stations + NC on 20 meters. Heard one station running 500mW. Prop is definitely improving. |

I ended up copying everyone. There was some QSB but only affected one station enough to drop to about 95% copy.
I could also hear Cape Cod on his 500mW. That's was pretty amazing for 20m this time of day/year. And that was on my go-box (the one in my avatar) and my Dell ruggedized laptop running HRD and DM780. Worked pretty good. |

Reminders will be on 40M as usual, and at 2330Z I'll check 20M as I did last week -- right now I'm expecting 20M will be better, but given the magnetic storm that's expected prop may be a crap shoot. |

I won't be able to participate tonight. Three days of heavy winds here are blowing the trees that hold up my antennas around like crazy. I took both of my wire antennas down at noontime today. Nothing to get on 20m or 40m unless I try to put up my Chameleon MPAS 2.0. We'll see what the wind looks like at dinnertime.

First reminder out on 40M (7120) at 2300Z, 2315Z on deck.
Both 40M and 20M are pretty quiet, I'm seeing/hearing faint CW signals around the net frequencies but not much, so prop may be tough tonight, space weather was showing a full radio blackout around 1700Z due to the recent CME. ETA: 2315 went out at 2317Z. Band still quiet. |

At least two reports via 20M. Sounds like 20M is better than 40M for now unless I hear otherwise.
ETA: There's some faint CW right on top of the net center frequency, hopefully he goes away soon. ETA #2: Back on 40M with the 2345Z announcement going out. Reports on the 2350Z appreciated, though I think we'll be going with 20M. ETA #3: Sticking with 20M, 14067.5 for tonight for those that can hear me. |

Not a bad net. Conditions were quiet, I had everyone S5-S9 with S1 noise with S3 bursts here.
Worst SNR was +7dB here. Four stations + NC tonight. ETA: if we keep seeing conditions like this we can probably step up the data rate to something much faster. |

standyby on 20M, for some reason it's not tuning and I need to debug why
ETA: I reset the tuner and it's fine now. 20M is clearly way better than 40M for most stations so we'll stay on 20M. I won't bother to do the reminders on 40M due to how poor prop is on 40M. ETA #2: Dang I'm hearing a couple of you guys so strongly we can probably run any speed we want tonight. |

20M prop much better than 40M, and it will probably remain the case until fall. SNRs were great, even at low powers. |

FYI I've done the countdowns on 40M through 2330Z, and did a 20M announcements at 2335Z and 2345Z.
I saw at least one of you tuning up so at least someone will be on the net! Good luck to the rest of you with antenna/rig issues. Hopefully things are smoother next week. I've had a 20M tuning glitch myself. |

I am wondering if anybody would be interested in doing an emcomm type diginet simulating grid down conditions to include:
No use of internet to coordinate which band or freq, follow a published comm plan for band and freq. Only just say, grid down exercise with a wed night date. Must use off grid power, battery or generator Maybe increasing the preamble to make it longer on when NC chooses the band and freq IAW the comm plan so people have time to find it before the checkin. Then relay made up exercise input info from each station to maybe look something like this Net de W1ABC This is an emcomm exercise input Central Maine SITEP as follows Power, internet, cell, and landline service out locally Local repeater network reports same conditions at least 60 miles around Portland Maine Looting reported in the city Local gunshots heard Intermittent radio broadcasts heard. QTH is ok. No injuries, no violence or looting. Tense but stable. No help needed Neighbors have established an OP with overwatch. Request nightly net for information flow, same time. This has been an emcomm exercise input. Back to NC, De W1ABC K. I am just spit balling here, the intent is to run off grid power, and not use arfcom to announce band and freq and follow a comm plan of priorities for band and freq and then find the net. Use the established familiar net and incorporate this once in a while for practice to share local conditions and news in case of a big grid down situation. Should we ever need to do this, the ability to communicate would keep us up on news and information outside our local areas could be worthwhile. We can discuss techniques on how to do this, I routinely find the net without referencing arfcom before I find it. I do the same thing with the SSB net. I'd like it and play. Actually, I am on a backup portable rig, battery power, and using a BuddiPole or Chameleon portable antenna on almost any given week already. I like to regularly exercise all my emergency equipment. All it takes for me to switch my whole station to battery power is the flip of a switch. And I generally have one of the portable antennas up in the back yard anyway.
The trick would be finding the net without coordinating here. |

How many of you are using JS8? Coordinating could be as simple as an @ARF announcement via JS8 relayed as necessary on the common 40m JS8 freq.
We also already have default frequencies and a time for the net, could just stick with that. |
