I can hear net control well...but there is some hollowness to the sound since I am close to him. Frustrating last few weeks as local T storms require I disconnect the outdoor antenna. As a result I have been playing with the SDRs a lot with lame indoor antennas to get my radio fix. I have also been building AM BCB antennas out of multiple 5.5 inch ferrite rods for a total length of 16.5 inches and they work pretty well. Not as good as a 2 foot box loop but not bad. I use the Airspy HF discovery+ and the SDRPlay RSPDX and really like SDR Console software to drive them. The Airspy is much better at LF for those interested in that. Best wishes to all and I am looking forward to winter DXing on 75. I virtually never post here anymore. See current activity at mar a lago as to why. Good luck guys! View Quote Conditions got better as we yakked. All the trailing static noise with your signal coming in disappeared. It was only occasional in the beginning but it went away. 73 and very nice chatting ole man! |

But who cares, you're running the coolest rig and portable at that I was running 10 watts on the KX3, the rig always seems to punch above it's output power... through a vertical tuned for the CW segment, that's ~4:1 or worse that high up on 40M, thanks for the report, as always SoS! @gyprat I will stay for comments next time, I should have anyway, I was able to listen to almost all of it. We have a local 10-10 Club net at 9. Anyway, great to hear you! You were +20 here. |

It only had 1.5-2 watts of transmitted power. I always assumed it was 5-10 watts. That big hunk of heaviness for up to 2 watts! . Yea I realize that in military use might be a good thing to keep off the enemy’s artillery strike list but it explains why we often couldn’t make contacts at times. Might get 15 miles one day and 800 meters was a no go another. |

GUYS,
Looks like I won't be able to get home in time for the net tonight. Sorry if this causes any inconvenience. Maybe one of you can volunteer to play a net control station tonight. |

I have a nasty thunder/lightning storm due here soon; part of several waves that hit here earlier. It is unlikely that I will hook up my station for tonight's net.
