I can't believe I made it in on 20m. I'm at my Dad's cottage with my old Ft-101b on a Sirio cb antenna. I know Andre said I was off freq. I really need to align this thing

Don't knock a CB antenna for the higher bands.  I run an IMAX 2000 on 17, 15,12, & 10, it works very well, the S/N ratio is much better that my doublet.

Edit: a tuner is required on 17 & 12.

Absolutely. That's why I brought the radio to test it. I can run those same bands on this one as well. To clarify, with a different rig of course

I'll be in the shack early today, at around 6:30 PM. Will probably find a freq and call CQ DX if propagation is decent. Stop by and check-in regardless on whether I call for DX of not.

Nice, I have to put everything in order.  Air gapped everything last night for an electrical storm.  Good thing as it was a hot one.

ugh, i have lots of noise tonight, hopefully 40m is better, I can hear NCS but it's ragged and tons of roller coaster up and down white noise.

40m is much kinder to my ears.  spent the day shooting .357 mags and have an ear ache despite muffs.

Great day on the range followed by a pile of genuine Mex food made be genuine Mexicans.

@dawg69

THIS.

Being relayed counts as a check in which is all you need.

What's an even MORE important question is if the net was passing on information would you be able to hear it from at least one other person.

I could barely hear the net controller and some of the check ins. I think I need to move my antenna. The attic antenna seems to be less than ideal. My wife needs to accept that an antenna outside is better than one that interferes with her TV!

The band was weird last night. Sometimes net control was booming and other times he was down almost into the noise.

If you get a wire dipole up into the trees (assuming that is an option) it will virtually disappear and not be an eyesore at all.

@dawg69 tell her that an antenna is like a clothes line, it works best when outside, and is a big compromise when inside.

20m was very sucky for me last night.  Against my better judgement I called to check in twice and wasn’t heard.  I did not have NCS clearly for 100% copy.  80% perhaps.   A lot of stations were mixed in the noise. Green Dragon popped up well, I could hear Michael in Ashville 70% I heard Lorazpan low  The rest was painful.  Not worth a report list as it was already underway and it was mostly no copy.  It did give me a chance to play with tweaking the Heil equalizer to boost some audible frequency to help pull more from the static.

40m was just fair to good.  Not very good or excellent.   I missed bits and pieces.  I’d have to query calling stations for fill ins if I was NCS.

We'll start at about 7:30 PM ET on 20 meters. Will switch to 40 meters at around 7:55.

If anyone can grab and hold 7.285 Mhz before the net starts (like Mike did last week), I'd appreciate it.

One of the Katrina Hurricane stations (W4A) is operating on 14.284, so .285 might not be the best choice.
