I heard the station in NY who is new call ending SE long path! I heard you direct and delayed as you called into the net.
It has been some time since I heard a grey line echo. EPIC. I am in NC. I have pretty much stopped posting here but I had to tell this station...you were heard around the world...even if it was for just a few seconds. Congratulations on the epic DX and 73! |

I water my backyard with brackish Florida canal water for one hour before the net. Helps the radial field for my vertical. 🙄

For the first time NC was able to hear me pretty good. I could only hear a few other stations through the static. I have family about 100mi south of me and they couldn't hear NC or anyone else.
I couldn't hear NC on 20m, but did pick up a guy from Rome on 14.243 who was booming in for a while before fading out. |

My wife walked into the shack a little while ago. I have the volume up just trying to hear anyone. She said, how can you hear anyone over all that noise. I said, I can't. Poor conditions this evening. I'll stick around for 80. I don't know if it will be any better, but I'll try.

If its broke. I can fix it. If it doesn't exist. I can make it. If its metal.

I got in this week, with some patience on net control's part.
It always feels good to hear someone call your sign back to you correctly. Spent all weekend trying to put together my new DX Commander antenna. People on videos sure make it look easy... Hopefully in a week or so it'll be working. PS Gyprat, I did stick around and checked in during comments, but don't think you heard my reply. |

Who knows if that’s true, but here in NC, I probably hear more signals from FL than anywhere else. View Quote In my opinion, Florida is the best US state for HF radio. It's nearly surrounded by the salt water Ocean and the Gulf. Nothing but the ocean separates them from many DX entities. Also, the land is basically flat and there are no mountains to block RX and TX signals (if you live in a close proximity to a mountain range). Ground conductivity is very good in most areas. It's a very important factor too. Italy is kind of similar to Florida in some ways. For those of you who live in the eastern US, have you ever wondered why you can always hear Italian stations on 40 and 20 meters, even when propagation is very poor? When it comes to ham radio, we often say that antennas are the most important thing at a ham station. It's very true because very few of us can choose our station location. Technically, location is the number 1 factor. Antennas is number 2. |

I’ve received some of my better contacts/signal reports after deep watering the yard. The canal water we use is brackish and I’ve been told has a higher salt content than fresh water. 🤷♂️ Does it make a difference? I don’t really know, but I take whatever edge I can get, even if is just physiological ( or superstition). That and a big amplifier. |

America and EU is relatively easy from my station. In particular, Italian stations are usually very strong and easy to hit. I think most everyone in Florida has made contact with Roberto near Milano. (Very nice guy). I don’t work the Italian stations too often because 1) they are easy to reach most of the time and 2) I want red wine and pizza afterwards. Propagation has to be pretty decent for me to hit the South Pacific or Asia, although I’ve worked more Australian stations in the past several weeks than I have in the past several years. Propagation helps 😳 |

Heads up.
Rain and thunder are expected just about all day today. I can do the net if there is no lightning at that time. I'll have to disconnect and leave the shack if there is thunderstorm heading this way. Will see. |

Anyone willing to play NCS if WX doesn't clear up? |

Heading to the shack shortly. We'll start on 20 meters at 7:30 PM ET, just like last week.
I'll have to stop if I hear thunder. Please don't get upset if this happens. The very top of the tower is right at about 90 ft above ground. It's a perfect lightning rod. |
