15 stations checked in on 40 meters.
18 check-ins on 80 meters.

Thank you all for checking in. Happy New year!

He was polite. No problem with me. I just can't stand the rude ones who demand you to QSY because it's their frequency.

It was my pleasure to have a short "rag chew" with you. Here is the stove I was talking about. Installed in 2012.

Nice stove. I have to use a rear outlet to exit into the old coal fireplace. Jotul stoves have nice low rear exits which make them
a no brainer. Great QSO...and after a short break I got into another one in the extra portion. A good arfcom ham evening for sure.

The net guys were lids. They transmitted on top of you with rude comments and no calls several times. That is why I signed quickly.
Anytime you want a QSO I am game. I am sorry the QSO was cut short. I really enjoyed it but I loathe lid behavior and it got under my skin.

PS. Stoves made with soapstone are great for heating long after the fire goes out. Epic!

I enjoyed the QSOs tonight a lot. Then I tried working DX on 75 in the window.
I worked
DF9LJ he answered my call in the window.
VE3RBX...A very nice guy.
S51IV Zorko in Slovenia 5x7 to 5x8
DF1TB Thomas...he also answered my call for DX.
ON8DM My old pal Mich. 59
DL5RBW Roger 57
I4LEC Clay...first time I have worked him in 7 years!
GW3XHG Dave...an old friend.
G4AMN Chris 59+ and my first trans-atlantic DX. Wonderful friend and great DXer.
EA1DLU Samuel 57 from him and also an old pal from the window. Catalonia region in Spain.
 His antenna is EPIC.

A great morning for DX on 75. Our pals on the other side of the pond have very low noise. Storms in TX and OK make things
harder here in the US.

I love DX.

I'll be on 40m at 7:30 pm and the main net will start at 8 pm on 80 meters, as usual.

What freq on 40m?

Primary 40m frequency is busy. Going with the secondary: 7.285 MHz.

I'll be using my backup rig IC7300. Hope it works as good.

40 meters isn't working for me this evening. only S1 noise, but no propagation. The spectrum scope is flat,

Please standby. I've been trying to get FLDIGI working on this radio. Somehow it F8cked up the radio too. Have to do a full reset.

I don't like my new antenna setup, it's a lot noisier than what I had up before.

I was happy to make it in that high in the band, vertical antenna is tuned for 7 to 7.1

Edit, just tried the fan dipole, gained an S or 2 to and from gyprat.

That happens sometimes. We usually can make contact. It seems like Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and Louisiana I can make contact with, when I can't hear anyone else.

Both you and @Mach were very strong here.  I do pretty well up the Eastern seaborne and the Midwest to your neighborhood.

I heard Mach and others very strong here. Net control could only just be heard at the end.
75m should be better for me.

Good signals tonight. Heard lots of guys on 40 as well as 75. 73 to all.

Don't let anyone tell you that low antennas don't work.  I got in and Gyprat was 5 by 7-8 on both bands (though I had a lot of noise and QRM on 80).

On 40 meters I was using 100 watts to a 40m dipole.  It's in a sloper config, with one end about 10' in the air, the other end about 20', and the feedpoint about 15' up.  That's the best I can do with my low trees.

On 80 meters I was using my trusty 72' end fed wire.  The feedpoint with the 9:1 UNUN is at 8' under the eave of my house.  The end of the wire is only up about 20-25' up in a tree, the best I can do on my property. (I use the shield of the 25' feedline as the counterpoise, with an RF choke at the window feedthru.)

So don't let anyone tell you that 100 watts and a (low) wire won't work.  I reliably reach from Central Texas to the East Coast for the nets.

Put up a wire, any wire, and give it a try!

SO.............  CQ Arfcom or CQ ArfHam?

Also, how about we just limit ourselves to call signs and names (no screen names).

Of course, I only want to make the check-in procedure more user friendly...

What do y'all think about this?

Either one is pretty innocuous to everyone but us. Dealer's choice

Gonna try out my Loop On Ground receive antenna tonight.  I've had mixed results so far but when it works, it really cuts down the noise level.

OK. How about we do the usual: 40m check-ins at 7:40 PM ET and the 80m net at 8:00 PM ET?

Arfcom or Arfham? Same for me, I guess. Just remember that 80m is full of nasties. They congregate at 3.860 Mhz to create interference and to make dumb remarks during the East Coast Patriots Net (8:30 pm, daily). Got an email last week, from someone who heard the net. He was asking too many strange questions.

I could hear NC early in the net for a minute, then he faded out.  Heard a few other check-in’s to NC, but no joy on NC.  Band is long for me now.   Maybe better on 80M
