I thought once a VE always a VE, unless loss of license. You may become an inactive VE, not able to hold exams, but still a VE.

It expires with your license. My current VE credentials show the same expiration date as my current license.

Mine expired with the license as well (ARRL)
I'm the liaison for the team & hold all the test materials.
I just called the VE section and they sent me a new card.
Easy peasy..

Meh. Leave it as it is. I'd love to get a ham logo next to my name. Being just a lowly tech though. Maybe the tech needs a pacifier and a antenna logo.

He too. Ive spent the better part of the last 3 years in apartments away from my family or living with my inlaws. Moved into the new house last year and want to really start learning Ham. Got my tech almost 4 years ago and I don't think I have talked to a single person and only own one of those cheap ass Chinese beofang handhelds.

2 HF rigs.
3 mobiles
6 handhelds

And still too stupid to get my general lic.

Gotta study for it one of these weeks and go take the test. It's boring to have an HF radio and not be able to use it other than a tiny portion of 10M.

Guys - get one of the study apps for your android or iPhone. Take sample tests whenever you have a free 5 minutes. Once you're passing them regularly, go take the test.

And while you're there, go ahead and take the extra. You'll probably fail, but why not attempt it since it's a free try?

How big is the question bank?

Brought up to the guys at the fire dept last night and have about 6 of them saying they are interested in getting there licensee mainly so we can talk on the local repeater.

What would be the best was for them to study ready for the test?

I am trying to come up with some online programs and or apps that I can email to all of the guys so they can start reading up on it. Im sure there are youtube videos as well. Out of the 6 guys interested I assume 1-2 will actually try.

If you're asking in general, various ways. NRA Eagle for example is submit your NRA creds. Military icons = military creds. Etc.

If you're asking about HAM radio icons, those haven't yet been implemented.

I'll not be participating.

Yes, https://www.qrz.com/hamtest/ is free and if you register, it will track your tests for you. I used that for my Tech and General on my desktop computer. Once I move and settle in, I'll do it again for my Extra.

The online versions are useful. But....

One of the points is to take a test whenever you have a free 5 minutes. Sitting in line at the bank. Waiting for your coffee at Starbucks. Taking a dump at work.

The idea is to make it easy and convenient. Hard to beat an app on your phone for that.

So.... get both. But don't not spend $5 on an app, and end up right back where you are because you never 'have the time to sit down and practice.'

QRZ.com has a bank of questions.

Also eHam.net.

FWIW my study guide was the eHam bank of questions. It worked for me. Got me all the way to Extra.

I found Ham Radio License Exam to be well worth the $20-$25 I spent on it for 2 years access. They use adaptive testing, have good study materials that explain why and how, and links to way too much info (Extra level stuff when studying for General). I paid for General access only, passed my Tech and General in one sitting easily.
