Here's a little something to get you started on propagation, antennas and feedlines. It's kind of long so you might want to print it out and read through it from time to time. There's a link to a .pdf file near the top of the article.

Your antenna will be the most important part of your installation. No matter how good your transceiver and other equipment are, a mediocre antenna system is going to result in mediocre overall performance.
Dipoles are a good starting point for an HF station. They're easy and (relatively) inexpensive to make yourself. Fan and off-center-fed dipole multi-band configurations are the most popular.
