No, the pileup was ridiculous. People were calling even while he was trying to complete contacts. I didn't have a chance.

I can hear them but I've got a 10 over buzzer noise all over them. If only they would just move up a few K.

Thats a bummer. Its a 3'fer getting them. They bounced me from Saint Marteen to Suriname. Which was pretty neat.

No, I just got on the radio a little while ago. Just working my way through the bands now. I already have a confirmed Hawaii QSO, so am not as concerned as I might otherwise be about it.

Do NOT be bashful. I managed to bust through the pileups for Navassa Island with 30 watts and a piece of wire up a tree. Just be patient and throw your call into the fray. It took me probably over 100 tries with my PRC 320 and I made it.

On top of that he was working split, 10 up so I had to click the decade switch up 10 to transmit and back down to receive and I got it done.

I was going after guys running 1.5 KW into Yagis but still managed.

If you can hear them you can work them. Good operators listen for words like 'QRP' and 'portable'.

Your antenna is likely much better than the wire I threw up a tree so you should be in good shape.

Tenacity is what counts! You can make it.

See? It can be done.

Hell, 20 watts and a good antenna and you can easily do what you think you can't do.

Throw your call into that pileup!

I give them a try every time I hear them. When it is a big pile up, I do say low power after my call sign. Sometimes it works.

Quasi officially 20 watts is not QRP but I doubt too many people will slight you for it if you do declare yourself a QRP station XX2XXX QRP.

IMO that's fair and reasonable because you are running at 20% power of a basic barefoot station.

Close enough.

I have read a few opinions on this, and there was a time when anything less than 100w was considered qrp. It has morphed into 5w or 10w and less depending on who you talk to. I have talked to a guy in BC with one watt. Started with 20, and kept turning the power down to see if he could hear me. I couldn't do that every day, but it was fun finding out that night.
I will eventually get my WAS, I would be 4 away if my log submissions were verified. All voice with 20w.
