View Quote It's interesting how that transfers. I didn't even know there WERE video games with excavators, but that hand-eye coordination has got to transfer I guess. Maybe it's MORE than that, that transfers. Uxb watches me on the mower, cutting in really, really close to tender plants and flowers without touching them and said to me the other day, "You'd be a good tank driver." (I've never even been inside a tank, and did not know that's how they worked. Apparently that's how they work...or did in his day.) Good hydraulics are amazing things. Around 50lb was placed in a shitty old RV, which was quickly vaporized. I wouldn't recommend that method of demolition. Tinsel insulation everywhere. But even the frame was blown apart at most of its joints, so you could probably fit everything you picked up into a single dumpster. Lol yea..trailer too close to road and other structures for tannerite.

*UPDATE*
Minor update, meeting with property owner on Sat. So, if we come to terms on price, ill be getting started right away. Thinking of doing some kinda time lapse or at the very least photo/document my process. The cheapest approach is for me to tear it down with hand tools, i have more time then money, lol |

*UPDATE*
Met w/owner today, came to terms, he wanted big money, i wanted to pay little money and we met in the middle, hate negotiating. Going to lawyer tomorrow to get paperwork started, even though property been in their fam since the 60s, still gonna run title search. Once, its mine officially, the tear down will happen immediately. |

We are buying it from the family they said no problems with the deed, ect. We did a title search and it seems that one of the heirs had a lien placed on the property based on the % he inherited. So the family decided lien will be satisfied with our down payment and he gets zero. Everyone just assumed the deed was clean, it wasn't. |

Yea, seller was surprised i had a lawyer all lined up etc. but gotta protect myself.
As far as insurance, my home owners covers it as its connected to my main property, just the building isnt covered but once i get property im going to talk to them about adding. The trailers will be long gone and then can talk to assessors office and re-class the property. *UPDATE* Seller & family came by the other day to get furniture, personal stuff, etc. I was glad they took a buncha stuff, less i gotta deal with, lol. They gave me the keys already, ive been clearing out the one “better” trailer as i think its still usable and could be fixed up. The other one, the one i posted about is just scrap. |

Closed on property on Sat., , I ownz it now
Began tear down, wanted to get insulation out of the way, will still have some in floor when i get to that point, plus pulling lower sheet metal, lets me know where studs are located, etc. The plan is to sawzall on either side of studs and across top and bottom and take wall sections out, no wider then 4-5’ Pulled the fridge and stove , plugged the fridge in, worked surprisingly well, buddy supposed to take it for garage Attached File ’ |

View Quote You got the septic tank and leech field marked out, and GPS coordinates written down? Might be good to know in the future should you decide to build something there that may need to make use of it. Or just where to avoid digging. Once the area it's in goes "back to nature" finding them may be a challenge. I'd recommend you hammer some marking pins in the ground in addition to a 3' or 4' tall T-post Edit: Just a thought. If there's no building on top of it and the frame is in the field can you have the county re-assess the property since it's no longer got a dwelling on it? Might be worth considering if you want to try to make something with the frame at a later date. Or if whoever said they'd come get it falls through. |

This property has 2 mobile homes and a well house. Well house has full garage style bathroom, etc.
One mobile is being tore down and undecided about the other as its in decent shape. Already got guy getn frame and axles once stripped down Yea, septic and all that is marked etc. Already talked to assessors office, once trailers removed , they will come out and reclass the property. |

Got goin early, here is progress, dumpster coming tomorrow, hopefully weather cooperates
Also , you can see the well house. I tore down and rebuilt lil porch roof on well-house, Used sum aluminum siding from scrap trailer for roofing, lol , its attached to 1/2” plywood. You can kinda see the road just behind well house, i own that and everything behind it and now added this property to mine. Attached File |

Back when I pulled them, we would just haul the unwanted ones to the construction and debris dump. They'd make quick work of them.
I can't figure any reason to go thru all that unless you are wanting to keep the frame, or are in a extremely remote area with no ability to have it hauled off, or are bored looking for something to do. :) |

This didnt have wheels and not sure i can take a fully intact mobile to dump, i guess i can ask next time but would still need hauled by someone I also didnt want property tore up and debris everywhere. Ive probably got 6-7 hours in this demo, that includes dump run. I have the time, so not a big deal, good fresh sawzall blades made quick work. Quoted: Well done and congrats on the property. View Quote Thanks. Dumpster dropped this morning, got right to work. Took two hours to clear it off and begin floor work before I got rained out. Attached File For reference, for anyone in a similar boat. Trailer was 8’ x 36’ , dumpster is 30 yard. ( 6’ high, 8’ wide and 19’ long ) A 10’ x 40-50’ trailer might be pushing it with a single 30 yard dumpster. Still have floor to put in, but plenty of room left. Attached File I did not separate any of the metals, didnt care and not worth time, i took a few sheets of siding for brown building porch roof but that was it. |
|
Rain stopped around 3pm, went back out at 4pm, got done at 7pm, 3 hours for that flooring. I knew it was going to be the worst part.
Attached File Flooring ate up rest of dumpster space.... Attached File Lessons learned.... 1) after putting flooring in dumpster, it would require (2) 30 yarders or possibly (1) 40 yarder for anything bigger then the one i tore apart. 2) after doing this tear down, im glad this was a small trailer. 3) i hope to never do this again, i wouldnt tackle a 10’ x 50’ , it would be nightmare. 4) removing the lag bolts that connect frame to flooring is a must, you wont get anywhere with them attached using human power and hand tools. I only had two with stripped heads , so they became a challenge. 5) get a buddy to help, i did this 100% solo, it sucked and made the work harder then probably needed to be, unfortunately, not many ppl around here can lend their time and i rarely ask for help anyways, atleast i can say i did it myself. 6) Sawzall blades - ended up using 7 blades total. The Diablo general purpose construction and Milwaukee “ Axe” blades worked great for this project. I bought Diablo blade for circular saw but never needed that saw. 7) keep side cutters on you, sawzall doesnt like wiring, easier to snip electrical as you work. 8) was methodical about placement inside dumpster to utilize space efficiently, had i not, i could have ran out of room. Thinking and not rushing pays off. Once i moved a couple large pieces into dumpster, i would take a mini break and clean up around work site , picking up debris, looking for nails/screws. At end of day, would run magnet on a string all around work area. Old guy suppose to come get frame and axles on wed. And then can move blocks and work on growing grass, lol. |

Quoted: Nice job. You must have been busting ass to get it all done so quick and with very little mess. View Quote Thanks I was consistent with pace, knew it was big job for one person, so took it one piece / section at a time and knew each part taken down would be one step to end goal , so patience was key and im horrible at being patient. Lol, now i want dumpster gone and frame gone. Other then the furnace, i kept all pieces on trailer , not a single section , glass or panel hit the ground , i painstakingly made sure no windows or mirrors got busted until in dumpster and like mentioned, would take mini breaks to police the area after moving a couple panels to dumpster. Another tidbit, once everything was off the floor and into dumpster, i actually sweep floor to get loose debris and screws/nails that might be loose. I knew the flooring was gonna get moved around a lot getting into dumpster. I think watching all those youtube videos of excavators making huge messes scared me straight. |

I wish, now dealing with big piles of brush they left on property, still gotta move bricks from under frame, etc etc etc. I got extremely lucky with weather, we had rain on occasion but it let up enough to get job done. On a side note, when under pinning “ cardboard” gets wet, its twice the wet and falls apart, not fun |

And its really done and gone now, guy came and cut up frame and hauled off.
Now to try and grow grass. Ideas ?? Attached File |
|
What kind of grass to you have already there? A runner, like Bermuda? If so, it will eventually take over. The weeds will visit first.
|
|
|
I'd throw a mix of clover and fescue on it. Cover it with straw if you can. Regular watering would help a lot of course if feasible.
The clover will come up quicker than the grass in most cases, and help to hold and improve the soil (nitrogen fixing) while the grass comes in. |
