All is well.....Been staying busy with work. Not much to do around the cabin at the moment. Waiting on some better weather to fire up the mill. Tractor is still in the shop but should be back soon. I am just getting things organized for a big push this Spring on my moms house. She will use y cabin for the time being and I am working on getting a small rv from a friend to use for me. Grizz is Grizz and is filling out nicely........but is in his terrible teens!

Have you looked into a vented 12v diesel heater for your cabin?

Can't remember if you covered it in the thread, but do you just use a composting toilet? Self built? What are your likes/dislikes?

Sold my house and currently looking for land. Planning to go off grid at some point down the road.

Love the thread and pictures!

Yes, I built my own composting toilet using scrap plywood and a toilet seat. I use a 5 gal bucket and sawdust from my mill. I love it. It works great for me, a guy, who can go out on the back porch in the morning and pee...... If I had a significant other living here with me I would most likely invest in a urine diverter and capture liquid in one jug and the solids in the bucket.

I will be building a new toilet shortly and will document the progress of it here.

Videos will return at in the near future. I stalled out on work around here over the winter and concentrated on working full time to build up my cash reserves.

I did, however, purchase this over the weekend.

This will become my ‘new’ living quarters so I can get my mom moved up here and settled temporarily into my cabin while I work on her house. After her place is completed I will finish my cabin to include a new high peaked metal roof so I can , not only, stand in my loft, but also finish my rain water collection as well.

After that I will gut the motor home and completely redo it, put it under a lean to with a covered porch and  turn it into a ‘guest house’.

Hello to all….. I haven’t gone anywhere and I am still working around the property. I basically unplugged for the last several months. My mom is up here and I am working on getting her situated and settled down into my cabin. I have not been updating due to some ‘nosy’ people who are becoming  a real pain in the ass. I won’t get into the details but it will be a while before I post too many more updates.

I know it’s been a while for an update and I have decided not to let the situation dictate what I will or will not post going forward……

Around mid May my mom moved out full time. I have been working on and off on the mill getting all the sill plates and most of the floor joist milled. It has been a chore due to the extreme fire hazards for most of the last month and a half. Things are DRY! So most of my sawing and milling was accomplished between 5-10 am…..

I also built a mobile shop that I can move around the construction area to help protect me from the sun and heat as well.

This is the joint on the back wall where a center sill plates and a vertical beam will be joined. There will be a total of 5 vertical beams, 3 sill plates, and 14 total floor joists……. I will update as I can.

This will be for one of the two 2100 gallon tanks that I picked up earlier this year. I have already cut the tenons on the back wall posts and will be getting them set shortly. Then I will move the tank in and the do the front rafters and roof. It will be fully insulated and will house my on demand water heater, a chest freezer and my water pump/ filter system. I will collect water of the porch roof and this roof over the winter and when I replace the roof on the cabin I will be able to collect about 300 gallons of water for every inch of rain.

Just found this thread and read through it.  You have made an amazing amount of progress since you got there.  I had seen this video on a greenhouse and thought you might get some ideas from it.

The greenhouse they bought and built has two layers of plastic over it.  They took a dryer vent and hooked it to a computer fan and use it to pump air between the two layers to improve the temperature regulation in the winter.

This Makes it so We Can GROW all WINTER w/out HEAT in our GREENHOUSE in a Northern Climate Zone 4B
